Openwork shawls. Author’s designs by Alla Borisova. Not showing. Thankyou 😁

The knitter 2021 56 cannot view. Thankyou

The knitter 2021 172 cannot view. Thankyou

I don’t know. I’m a premium user and all pictures are not showing. Can’t see anything. Help!

It has nothing to do with premium membership, all albums are visible even without any login. If no images at all are showing, it means that the service is down. In this case, Google Photos. Or the service is blocked in your country. Google Photos is unavailable sometimes, but is normally gets fixed within several minutes.

All books no pages

If no pages load, it means google photos service is not available. It can be either temporary maintenance and it should then start working after some minutes, or it is being blocked in your region.

I open new arrivals and there are no preview pictures. Is there something with the site or something on my end? When I click the whole publication shows but not the preview on the page before. It just shows a grey circle with a line thru it.Thankyou, Kitty

I think Google introduced changes to the way their products can be embedded into websites. What used to work does not work any more. I am looking into it and I hope to fix it soon. Sorry for that!

Thankyou for all the hard work you put in for this site. I am very grateful. Bless you.❤ Kitty.

“As it’s not always easy to buy my toy knitting patterns in certain parts of the world, I am delighted to now be able to offer them quickly and at little cost through this website as downloadable PDF files. Once paid for, these patterns can then be downloaded, saved and printed out at home or read from your tablet.

I do not enter discussion forums, have a Facebook page, sell through any other online site, or have printed paper versions of my patterns in retail outlets, so this is the only place where you can buy my patterns directly from me.

All the knitting patterns in the Toy Patterns Shop are available as PDF downloads, and range from 5 to 40 pages each. Printed paper versions are not produced, and a mail order service is not possible. Each pattern includes photograph(s) of the finished toy, and the size of these have been kept small so as not to use too much of your ink. The number of photographs will vary from pattern to pattern, depending upon how many are available, as those in older designs were only taken as a reference before the toy was sent off to the magazine. However, patterns of recent designs contain more photographs, including close-up views of important details to help with the making-up process. The knitting patterns cost from £3.00 to £4.50 each, which is payable through PayPal, either via your PayPal account or by using a credit or debit card.

VERY IMPORTANT! You must make sure to save the PDF pattern file once you have downloaded it, as the number of times you can click on the link is limited, and you can’t simply open a link each time you want to continue working from the pattern on your tablet or phone, because the link will expire. If you save the file then you will be able to open it as many times as you wish, and you can read how to do this on the FAQ page of the website.

Once downloaded and saved, the knitting patterns can be printed out on ordinary copy paper. There is at least one photograph on each pattern, so these pages could be printed on photo paper, if desired, to give a clearer image for reference.

Patterns marked with an asterisk* are a version exclusive to the website, and those marked with a double asterisk** are new designs that have been created exclusively for this site, and only available here.

Please note that patterns of licensed characters are not available for downloading. For legal reasons, these could only appear once, either in a magazine feature or as a pattern leaflet, and since they are out of print and the licenses have expired these patterns are unavailable, so the only way you will now be able to obtain these licensed character patterns is if you can find original leaflets or magazine tear sheets being offered for sale. Please do not buy duplicated versions of these patterns because this is illegal, and they not only infringe Alan’s copyright but also violate the rights of the creators of the characters in question.

Some of the fancy yarns which were originally used for these designs have now been discontinued, but the majority are knitted to a standard double knitting tension, so provided you use a DK equivalent yarn you can substitute as you wish, with confidence in the knowledge that the pattern will still work. If you are unsure about the suitability of the yarn you have chosen, simply knit up a tension square and check the number of stitches and rows against those quoted in the pattern, adjusting if necessary by using smaller needles to increase the numbers or larger needles to decrease them. If you are unable to find the yarns you need for the projects in your local wool shop, then you can buy them online from LoveKnitting, and if you order before 4pm any weekday from Monday to Friday you will receive your beautifully-wrapped package within 2 to 4 working days. Dianne’s Knitting Yarns also carry most of the yarns that are used for Alan’s patterns, and have a page giving details of the actual yarn amounts needed, along with his last few remaining Sirdar leaflets. The same company has a craft website called CraftBits, where you can find the safety toy eyes used for his dogs, cats, and teddy bears. There is no minimum order amount set by either of these companies, and they are happy to ship anywhere in the world.

The amounts of yarn quoted in the patterns are approximate, and are given as a guide only, because different qualities of yarn vary in weight – for example, wool weighs heavier than acrylic. Similarly, the amount of stuffing quoted is based on using a ‘hi-loft’ polyester stuffing, since inferior fillings weigh much heavier and you will therefore end up needing more to stuff the toy.

Please do not be tempted to substitute dried peas or lentils for the PVC beanbag granules, which are available from Fred Aldous, as these can harbour mites and become unpleasant should the toy get damp.

Some people experience difficulty when knitting hands that have separate fingers, and this is mainly due to them assuming that they are constructed in a different manner, but if the instructions are followed precisely as written then the result will be perfect. Alan has prepared a free 6 page step-by-step fingered hands tutorial that can be downloaded by clicking here, and this will explain fully, in photographs and unabbreviated text, how these hands are knitted. Although the number of stitches and rows will differ depending upon which pattern you are using, the method of construction will always remain the same, so once you have knitted this test piece successfully you will be able to knit any of Alan’s designs that feature fingered hands.

Alan Dart’s diverse craft work has appeared in numerous magazines, he has written several books, and has taught knitwear design at art colleges, along with demonstrating crafts on two children’s television series. For eleven years his knitted toy designs also appeared every month in Simply Knitting magazine.

This secure site provides a one-stop shop where you will find Alan’s knitted toy designs, both old and new, some of which are exclusive and can only be bought from the website. By visiting the Toy Patterns page you can easily view, select, and download original PDF files from an ever-increasing range of designs, starting at only £3.00 each and going up to £4.50 for patterns that were created exclusively for the website.

There are over two hundred knitting patterns on this website from which you can make your choice, and if you visit the Toy Patterns page you will find them organised into groups so you can go straight to the pattern you want. However, if you prefer to scroll through the entire list, then this option is also available to you. The patterns are listed alphabetically by default, but you can opt to have them arranged by price or date, in ascending or descending order, by choosing these in the ‘Order Patterns’ boxes, and then clicking on the ‘Sort’ button. After placing your order, and as soon as your payment has been approved by PayPal, you will be returned to the website where your patterns will be waiting for you to download, save and print out. You can read how to download and save a pattern file to your computer, tablet or other device on the FAQ page of this website. Should you find that the Transaction Results page is empty when you are redirected to the website, all you need to do is simply wait for a minute and reload the page in your browser, then the download icons will appear and you will be able to collect your patterns. You will also receive a Purchase Receipt by email, giving you details of your order and another oppportunity to download your pattern files. Below you can watch a short YouTube video, which will show you just how simple it is to place an order and collect your patterns.

DISCONTINUED YARNS

“The yarns and shades quoted are those I used when designing each pattern and, whenever possible, I have substituted any discontinued shade with a suitable alternative before adding a pattern to the website. However, yarn spinners discontinue colours on a very regular basis, so you may find that some are now unavailable, particularly if the pattern was written more than 6 months ago, and if you are unable to source a specified colour then you can simply choose a similar shade in a yarn of a matching weight. Most of my patterns are knitted in standard double knitting (DK) yarn, with just a few requiring Aran or Chunky weight yarns, and there are many spinners who produce these basic yarns. The majority of the patterns only use small amounts of each colour, so you may even have left-over yarn from other projects that you could use rather than buy full balls.

At the moment, Dianne’s Knitting Yarns still have a limited supply of Snowflake and Funky Fur available online here, so it may be worthwhile checking out their website in case they have the yarn you need.

Due to the constant, and sometimes frustrating, discontinuation of yarns and shades by spinners, starting at the beginning of 2021 all my new patterns simply quote the yarn weight and give generic colour names so you will be able to either buy something similar from your local yarn store, or even find a suitable oddment in your yarn stash.

WEBSITE’S 14th YEAR

My website went live on 1st June 2008, so it is now fourteen years old, and I would like to thank you so much for all your support and custom, which is what has made it a success. I now no longer work for magazines, so all the new designs I am creating will only be available to download from the website and nowhere else, and I hope you will continue to enjoy knitting my patterns. Thanks once again!

THE PIGGLES

Please have a look at the separate page on this website that showcases The Piggles, who made their first appearance in Woman’s Weekly as fabric toys. Malcolm Bird and I created the characters over ten years ago, and now, for the first time, you can knit your own Piggles, with their removable clothes, from the two patterns that are available exclusively from my website. I have also written some stories, and Malcolm has illustrated the first of these, which is now available as an eBook from the iBookstore. Do take a few minutes to explore the Piggle page, where you will be able to learn more about the Piggles and get the opportunity to bring the lovable trio into your life.

THE WEBSITE’S LATEST PATTERN

Its first appearance in England being recorded by Samuel Pepys in 1662, the Punch and Judy Show** has now been performed for over 350 years, and originates with the 16th century Italian puppet Pulcinella. An archetypal element of the traditional British seaside resort, the show is often performed on the beach by a puppeteer, calling himself ‘Professor’, and nowadays there is also an annual Punch and Judy Festival held in London’s Covent Garden. The story centres on Mr Punch and his wife Judy, together with their baby and Toby the dog, and when a crocodile turns up and steals the sausages Punch has been given to look after, a policeman is summoned to deal with the situation, which involves a lot of slapstick. There is no set script and this gives great scope for invention and improvisation. The knitting of the theatre is very straightforward, but the assembly requires a certain degree of craftwork experience, so if you don’t feel confident enough to tackle this entire project you could simply knit the stick puppets and create your own stage by draping a cloth over an open cupboard door, behind which the puppeteer can crouch.

KNIT FOR CHARITY

From 1st April 2020, 100% of all proceeds from the sale of the Doctor and Nurse pattern on this website will be donated to NHS Charities Together. The coronavirus pandemic of 2020 has affected the lives of so many people, especially the medical staff of the National Health Service, who have put themselves at risk on the front line to care for those who have contracted this virus. They deserve a huge applause and our eternal gratitude, and by buying this pattern you are directly contributing to the charity’s fund, and even more so if you knit and sell the toys to raise further donations. UPDATE! During the time this pattern has been sold in aid of charity, from 1st April 2020 to 1st June 2022, your donations have raised £1697.50, which has now been donated to the NHS. Many thanks to everyone who has bought the pattern to support this project. Stay safe, take care and keep well.

During our lifetime many of us will come into contact with cancer, either directly or through a friend or relative. Nowadays, thanks to enormous advances in research, treatment can be offered to either cure or manage the condition. The Christie in Manchester, England, is the largest cancer treatment centre of its kind in Europe and an international leader in research and development. Guardian Angel**, which you will find on the Toy Patterns page, has been designed for you to knit and give as a small token to offer support and comfort to anyone who is, or has been, affected by cancer, and the total proceeds from the sale of this pattern will be donated directly to The Christie NHS Charitable Trust to aid further research, treatment, care and education. LATEST NEWS! From 13th March 2018 to 1st June 2022, sales of this pattern have amounted to £1632.00, which has been donated to The Christie Charity on your behalf. Thank you for your much-appreciated generosity, and why not consider knitting a Guardian Angel to give hope and cheer to someone you know who would appreciate your thoughtfulness.
