How do boats float?

When you lower a boat into a big body of water, like a river, harbor or ocean, the weight and density of the water will always be greater than that of the boat. That’s because the inside of a boat is mostly filled with air, which doesn’t weigh much, of course. But if you lower a boat into a small wading pool, the weight of the boat may be greater than the weight and density of the water – and your boat quickly becomes a bottom dweller.

Why can a sailboat sail against the wind?

It may seem counter-intuitive that sailing against the wind is even possible in a sailboat. But it’s all about physics. When you set the sails at an angle of 25-45 degrees to the wind, the wind fills the sail and makes the sail perform like a wing on a plane. The air is pushed back, while the boat is propelled forward. This means that you will be zigzagging (tacking) to get to where you’re going – and get to spend more time on your boat!

How do you choose a great name for your boat?

Every great ship should have a name. Toy ships especially. Renaming a boat, however, is generally considered bad luck, so choose wisely – or just build a new boat – if you regret your first choice!

Will it float?

What objects will float in your kitchen sink or bathtub? Let your child experiment with different types of “boats” at home. (Maybe set some ground rules for what objects should NOT be tested…) Tie wooden spoons together with rubber bands to create a raft. A pot or bowl could also make a great boat, too. Bring in a few minifigures with strong sea legs and let the adventures begin.

Why sailors are (still) heroes

Before bicycles, cars, trains, and planes, people walked, rode horses, and SAILED. The first sailors learned to master the waves and winds to bring home food for their families. Others were brave (or crazy - or both) men and women who embarked on expeditions into the unknown, crossing oceans to discover and explore new worlds above and in the water.

Life onboard a boat is for courageous adventurers. So, whether your child captains a pirate ship, a cargo ship, a sailboat, a fishing boat, a rescue boat, or just a rowboat, put them in a life jacket and let the seven seas open up a world of wonder.

M01 - Innovation Project Model

Measures at least as long as 4 LEGO "studs" in some direction.
Has any part of it touching the CARGO CONNECT℠ circle.

M02 - Unused Capacity

If the hinged container is completely closed :

"Partly full" requires 1-5 content pieces to be completely inside the closed hinged container

"Completely full" requires all 6 content pieces be completely inside the closed hinged container.

M03 - Unload Cargo Plane

If the truck has reached its destination, completely past its blue end line, on the mat: 10
If the airplane has reached its destination, completely past its blue end line, on the mat: 10
Bonus: If both the above are true: 10 added

Extend the blue end lines in both directions to the edges of the mat as needed when scoring

If your robot is parked over the blue accident-avoidance line at the end of the match and the yellow panel is:

If the package has been delivered to its destination so that it is on the doorstep:

The package does not score if it is touching any equipment at the end of the match.

M12 - Large Delivery

If the turbine blade is touching only the blue holder and:

If the bridge deck(s) have been lowered and rest on their center support: 10 each

M15 - Load Cargo

If there are containers on and touching only the:

Platooning Trucks: 10 each(Max 20 points)
Train: 20 each(Max 40 points)
Cargo Ship’s West Deck: 30 each(Max 60 points)

A maximum of two containers can score per form of transportation.
Containers can touch each other or have contents.
Containers can touch the gray ends of the cargo ship’s west deck.
Containers on Platooning Trucks must be completely outside of home.

M16 - CARGO CONNECT℠

You earn points for the number of containers delivered to circles, the total number of circles that you delivered containers to, and if you deliver the right container to the right circle.

If there are containers in any circle:

If the blue (not hinged) container is completely in the blue circle: 20 added

If the lime green container is completely in the lime green circle: 20 added

If there are any circles with at least one container completely in them: 10 each circle

Containers include gray, light orange, blue (not hinged), lime green, and blue (hinged).

M17 - Precision

You can lose one precision token without it affecting your score. Use it strategically and be sure you understand R5 , R12 , R15 , R16 , and R19 .

Have anyone tried a convertion of the Lego City Harbor set into RC? The hull floats and is like a barge but has plenty of space for RC equipment.

I think it would work, sealing off all the electronics in a watertight box you could build your own design over and over.

I have the cargo hull, and a couple years ago I tinkered with it building a paddle steamer using the lego power functions with it's IR sensors. I took it to a local RC gathering and ran it in a makeshift pool walking along the side. The old guys got quite a laugh seeing it, but it was the star attraction for the public!

there is only one problem. i will not be able to stop building models with the stuff. i do like that airboat/hover craft sweet. i know someone with the cargo ship hull-from what iv'e seen it would work nice cant wait to see the results

I've build LEGO-ships for years at a rate of 1 a day.
All those models were somewhere between 1m long and even up to 2,30m at the longest.
The most were more like 1,50m long.
After I bought my first RC-kit (Billings Banckert) I decided to use my LEGO to build an RC model, but as the first few wet moments went wrong (just in the bathtub, but a leaking boat is not suitable for RC) combined with the problems of getting the propulsion working properly I then decided to drop the idea.
As the Well Enhancer will be fitted with about 120 working functions I won't have any good reasons to use LEGO anymore, as I allways liked to make as much working as possible.
I really won't let anyone just give my LEGO away, I want to save it for my children.
