When the LEGO Brickheadz theme was announced in 2017, it met mixed opinions from the community. Many considered it a pointless endeavor and still do to this day, while dedicated collectors welcomed the brand new opportunity to collect their favorite characters as buildable LEGO figures.

As with any other LEGO Star Wars release, the LEGO Star Wars Brickheadz were the most successful figures out of all from the theme. To this day, we have received more than a dozen characters and while there was a certain delay with new releases after the original negative response from the community, we will soon see more characters made in this form.

In the following article, we will discuss every LEGO Star Wars buildable figure that has been released to this day including the upcoming 75317 The Mandalorian & The Child which will be available for purchase in August 2020

41485 Finn

When you look at the first two Star Wars Brickheadz – Finn & Captain Phasma, you can pretty much understand why the LEGO Star Wars community was not fond of this theme from the start. To this day, these are easily the worst Brickheadz from the Star Wars line and this is the overall opinion, not just ours.

The Finn figure simply had no depth and the overall design was plain and quite uninteresting. Of course, you cannot expect much from this particular concept but I believe that LEGO could have started better with a couple of more attractive characters and maybe more complex designs.

41486 Captain Phasma

As already mentioned, Captain Phasma was the second of the two original LEGO Star Wars Brickheadz and I will repeat myself in saying that this one was not a good choice for the beginning of the line.

Captain Phasma is by far one of the characters with wasted potential and does not rank at the top of the fan-favorite villains. Besides that, there are significant problems with the design that simply make this a fairly bad buildable figure.

I know that Brickheadz are not supposed to be 100% accurate but the helmet on Captain Phasma is simply too much out of place. It is way too bulky and with strange angles. Besides the problems with the design, the original Star Wars Brickheadz came with a printed tile on the stand that most fans hated.

Fortunately, LEGO abandoned the printed tile which truly made all following Brickheadz sets so much better.

41498 Boba Fett and Han Solo in Carbonite

Next we have the 41498 Boba Fett and Han Solo in Carbonite which was a New York Comic Con exclusive from 2017 and honestly, one of the greatest Brickheadz to date.

Later on, you will see the second Boba Fett release which does look sleeker than this original version but honestly, this set is just unique for other reasons. Yes, the Boba Fett is great here but the focal point here is the Han Solo in Carbonite.

LEGO did an outstanding job with this piece and included lovely details. From the printed side pieces to the closed eyes of Han Solo (as it is in the movie), it is an absolute beauty.

As for Boba Fett, he comes with a printed torso and a beautiful helmet section but to me, the greatest addition is the jetpack which is what the newer version lacks. We also see the famous custom gun and overall, this was a truly exclusive set.

41602 Rey

The next LEGO Star Wars Brickheadz release was Rey and it was an overall good figure despite some obvious minor issues that I consider equal for most figures. I honestly feel like characters with open faces without masks or helmets look odd with the square flat faces but this is the concept and we must accept it.

The second issue I have with this Brickhead that is also valid for all characters with lightsabers is the actual size of the saber. For example, characters that use guns and blasters get their own custom designs while lightsaber users get the regular minifigure scale lightsaber that just looks out of place compared to the size of the buildable figures.

As for the other aspects of the design, LEGO did a great job with the hair section which floated nicely and the torso design was on point and accurate. Overall, this is a figure I would rank somewhere in the middle of the best and worst Brickheadz.

41603 Kylo Ren

We will not go through the same issue with the lightsaber here again but know that it stands valid for this figure of Kylo Ren.

On the other hand, I consider the 41603 Kylo Ren to be one of the best Brickheadz to ever be released and I feel like LEGO captured the overall look of Kylo perfectly.

LEGO nailed the detailing here, the torso and face look good but the focal point for me here is the hairpiece which is just exceptionally done. You have to agree that brickheadz that get some detailing instead of a plain flat face definitely looks better than the simpler ones.

41608 Han Solo

The 41608 Han Solo is one of those figures that leave you with mixed emotions as it has both great and terrible features.

Overall, it is one of the better-looking Brickheadz out there but we will go through both sides of the coin here. For example, it has great torso printing that does actually match the real deal from the movies. Other than that, the hair on this one is perfect and closely resembles the Han Solo we know. Last but not least, the gun piece is, of course, custom and quite cool.

You can probably guess that one of the negative features to me is the flat face although this is the main idea behind this LEGO theme. Other than that, his ears look odd and out of place. Overall, it is one of the better Brickheadz.

41609 Chewbacca

Well, here we have a weird one but what can you expect from a LEGO buildable figure of a furry character. I understand how hard it would be to find that perfect solution for adding a furry effect and thus, I always close my eyes on this side of the Chewbacca figure.

However, if I have to be honest, I feel like LEGO shouldn’t have attempted to make this character into Brickheadz as it just doesn’t work. It does not fit the characteristics that all other Brickheadz possess. It is understandable that this line is, to some extent, focused on the younger generation of LEGO fans but this Chewbacca simply looks like a toy made for a baby.

41619 Darth Vader

Next up, we have Darth Vader which I thought to be quite odd at the beginning but with time, it grew on me and I absolutely love it now.

The figure includes a bunch of neat printed pieces that recreate the smaller details of the costume and a cool triangular ventilation piece on the head (if that is what you call it). The helmet piece could benefit from some improvements in terms of shape but I believe they did a good job in the overall recreation of this part.

Unfortunately, it includes a regular red lightsaber which, once again, looks odd at this scale but what can we do about it.

41620 Stormtrooper

It may surprise you but the 41620 Stormtrooper is often said to be the greatest of all Star Wars Brickheadz and honestly, I can agree. Simply said, LEGO nailed the design here and this is the only figure that you can freely purchase multiple of without it being weird. Although I cannot see the point in having a Brickheadz army, I am sure that there are people out there that have done it.

Anyway, we can easily compare this figure with the one of Captain Phasma and you should instantly spot the differences in design and how much better the Stormtrooper is. The detailing on the helmet is incredible, LEGO used a bunch of different techniques to build the pieces together into one incredible design.

The torso printing is simple as you cannot expect much from a Stormtrooper but it is effective and the figure also includes a custom blaster. As a whole, I hope LEGO releases more figures of military characters like this one and maybe, I would then consider building an army of those.

41627 Luke Skywalker & Yoda

Next, we have the first co-pack after the NYCC exclusive that includes Luke Skywalker and Yoda. Maybe it is because Yoda is my favorite character but I absolutely love this set.

The design of Luke was great. LEGO made him into his Cloud City outfit with some neat printed pieces, they added some details on the belt like the lightsaber holder which would hardly hold a lightsaber at this size but it is a cool feature.

The weirdest addition in this set is the combination between the blaster and the lightsaber since I do not remember ever seeing Luke with both but it looks good at the same time.

As for Yoda, LEGO made him smaller than the usual Brickhead but to me, they nailed the design. The color scheme is perfect and the pieces they used for the ears really make it up for some of the older figures with weird ears.

41628 Princess Leia

One of the latest Star Wars Brickheadz (not that there have been many new ones lately) is Princess Leia, and honestly, it is one of my least favorite figures despite the fact that I love the character (who doesn’t?).

Understandably, Leia’s outfit is quite plain and simple throughout the movies but I feel like this buildable figure just lacks the depth it should have. Furthermore, we once again have the plain flat face that does not have any character to it.

The hair part is perhaps the best part about this figure and also the custom blaster but other than that, I would consider this a mandatory collection piece but an unnecessary purchase if you simply want a LEGO set.

41629 Boba Fett

Here, we have one of the most beautiful Brickheadz, if not the greatest, based on design and color scheme – Boba Fett. We already went through the NYCC exclusive that had Boba Fett and Han Solo in Carbonite but I feel like this individual one is better.

The overall design here was brilliant. LEGO used several printed pieces to complete the design of the helmet which would, otherwise, be looking odd and unfinished. The color scheme was great and included a custom blaster design.

Overall, the only issue I could think of with this figure is that it was slightly bulkier than I would imagine it but that does not matter when you put it next to the amazing design and execution.

75232 Kylo Ren & Sith Trooper

The latest Brickheadz set to be released was dedicated to the latest installment of the Skywalker Saga – the 75232 Kylo Ren & Sith Trooper.

We discussed the previous Kylo Ren above and as I said, it is one of the best Brickheadz out there but this newer version really took things on another level as this one includes Kylo Ren with a mask. The design is absolutely insane and detailed, the figure also includes the famous hood, some torso printing, and the regular-sized red lightsaber.

As for the Sith Trooper, it does look amazing but slightly bulkier than I would like it to be. As a whole, the helmet does not closely resemble the actual character and it gives me those Captain Phasma vibes that I do not want in my head. Nevertheless, I absolutely love the colors they used and to me, they make up for the issues and make the figure look unique.

75317 The Mandalorian & The Child

The Mandalorian really gave Disney and Star Wars a quick boost after the recent mediocre years and took their sales to new heights. Logically, this upcoming Brickheadz set is the most anticipated one out of all in the Star Wars line and it will soon hit the shelves.

Although it is not released yet, we can easily review the figures and we will start with the Mandalorian. LEGO made the decision to give him the original armor from the beginning of the series instead of the Beskar steel outfit from the later episodes. The color scheme is great and perfectly outlines the features of the actual character. Unlike most Brickheadz, the Mandalorian has a perfectly fitted helmet for this scale and I cannot wait to own this figure.

As for Baby Yoda or the Child, it comes with the hover pod we saw in the first episodes which is a nice addition with good design. While you cannot expect much design-wise from this character, LEGO nailed the shaping and completed it with those cute ears that you see on the picture.

Final Thoughts

As you can tell from the customer response to the Brickheadz theme, this type of LEGO set is not for everyone but there are plenty of people that love them and want more to be released. For Star Wars, in particular, there was a period without any news and people thought that LEGO had abandoned the idea but now we see that it is quite the opposite and we can surely expect more in the future.

BrickHeadz – это новая линейка наборов Lego, в основе которой лежит долгая и кропотливая работа дизайнеров. Объединившись с давними партнёрами, такими как DC Comics, Marvel и Disney, разработчики серии создали эксклюзивный продукт. Его главной задачей является соединения базовых принципов конструирования с увлечениями детей и подростков.

На официальном пресс-релизе, состоявшемся 30 января 2017 года, были представлены первые 8 наборов, посвящённых персонажам мультфильма «Лего Фильм: Бэтмен» и супергероям Marvel. Внешне они представляют собой стилизованные версии культовых героев из известных фильмов, телесериалов, игр и комиксов. Собранные полностью из разноцветных кирпичиков, они сильно отличаются от оригиналов. Но наличие особых деталей одежды или отличительных знаков позволяет абсолютно точно угадать, что за герой стоит перед Вами.

Работая над серией BrickHeadz, дизайнеры тщательно прорабатывали каждый образ. Их целью было привнесение юмористической нотки в историю каждого персонажа. В своих вымышленных Вселенных они выглядят очень круто и стильно, но в мире Лего они могут предстать перед аудиторией совсем в другом свете. BrickHeadz – это своего рода дружеский шарж, который должен понравиться не только поклонникам супергероев, но и любителям конструирования.

Все сборные фигуры имеют стандартный рост, равный 7 см. Для большей устойчивости к каждому герою приложена демонстрационная панель (4х4х1 см). На ней размещён индивидуальный серийный номер персонажа и символ LEGO BrickHeadz. Это позволяет использовать наборы не только в качестве развлечения и игры, но и в виде объекта для коллекционирования. Также фигуры учитывают стремления подростков проявлять свои креативные способности. Стандартная конструкция, состоящая из маленьких ног, массивного торса и огромной головы, характерна для всех фигурок серии, а это значит, что их можно неоднократно переделывать, создавая собственных фантастических персонажей.
