Lego The Lord of the Rings was a Lego theme based on The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. It is licensed from Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema. [2] The theme was first introduced in 2012. The first sets appeared in 2012, to coincide with a release of The Lord of the Rings film trilogy and the video game Lego The Lord of the Rings. Overview [ edit ]

Lego The Lord of the Rings was based on The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. The product line focuses on the fictional world of Middle-earth, the films follow the hobbit Frodo Baggins as he and the Fellowship embark on a quest to destroy the One Ring, to ensure the destruction of its maker, the Dark Lord Sauron. The Fellowship eventually splits up and Frodo continues the quest with his loyal companion Sam and the treacherous Gollum. Meanwhile, Aragorn, heir in exile to the throne of Gondor, along with Legolas, Gimli, Boromir, Merry, Pippin and the wizard Gandalf, unite to rally the Free Peoples of Middle-earth in the War of the Ring in order to aid Frodo by distracting Sauron's attention. In May 2013, Rich-K and Big J had designed a Helm's Deep model contained a total of 150,000 Lego bricks and 1,700 mini-figures that based on The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. [4] In December 2013, Alice Finch and David Frank had designed The Rivendell model contained a total of 200,000 Lego bricks that based on The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. [5]

In November 2012, Lego The Hobbit was based on The Hobbit film trilogy. The product line focuses on the tale of Bilbo Baggins, who is convinced by the wizard Gandalf to accompany thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield, on a quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from the dragon Smaug. Lego The Lord of the Rings theme was launched at the American International Toy Fair in 2012 and Lego The Hobbit was launched in few months later. As part of the marketing campaign, The Lego Group released seven Lego sets based on the film. [8]

According to Bricklink, The Lego Group released a total of 16 Lego sets and promotional polybags associated with Lego The Lord of the Rings and 24 sets and promotional polybags associated with Lego The Hobbit. Lego The Lord of the Rings sets [ edit ]

On 16 December 2011, The Lego Group announced a partnership with Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema. [21] [22] It was officially announced by The Lego Group that the seven sets based on The Lord of the Rings film trilogy was released on 16 May 2012. [23] The seven sets [24] [25] being released were Gandalf Arrives (set number: 9469), [26] Shelob Attacks (set number: 9470), [27] Uruk-Hai Army (set number: 9471) [28] [b] , Attack of Weathertop (set number: 9472), [29] The Mines of Moria (set number: 9473), [30] The Battle of Helm's Deep (set number: 9474) [31] [b] and The Orc Forge (set number: 9476). [32] In addition to the sets, two polybag sets were released as promotions, which were Frodo with cooking corner (set number: 30210) and Uruk-Hai with ballista (set number: 30211). These included five key chains with a key chain attached to the minifigures of the Mordor Orc, Gandalf the Grey, Gimli, Frodo Baggins and Bilbo Baggins. Later, it was announced that Lego The Lord of the Rings (video game) was released on 30 October 2012 and also included Elrond minifigure as a free gift. [33]

In 2013, it was announced that four sets was released on 1 June 2013. [38] Tower of Orthanc (set number: 10237) [39] [40] [41] was an exclusive set released on 1 July 2013. The set consists of 2359 pieces with five minifigures. Each of the sets featured eight core characters, [10] named Frodo Baggins, Gandalf the Grey, Aragorn, Samwise Gamgee (Sam), Gimli, Peregrin Took (Pippin), Meriadoc Brandybuck (Merry) and Legolas Greenleaf. [42] A Cave Troll, Corsair Pirate, Gollum, Lurtz, Mordor Orc, Ringwraith, [11] Soldier of the Dead, Rohan Soldier and Uruk-Hai [11] were also introduced for each of the sets. [43] The theme was designed primarily for children aged 8 to 14. The series acted as a thematic replacement for the popular Lego Castle theme, featuring many of the same elements. Most of the sets are similar to the Lego Castle theme. The Lego Group also used this license for the characters, starter pack and fun packs in the Lego Dimensions toys-to-life video game.

The four sets [72] being released were Witch-King Battle (set number: 79015), Attack on Lake-town (set number: 79016), The Battle of Five Armies (set number: 79017) and The Lonely Mountain (set number: 79018). Developer Traveller's Tales has stated they toned down the slapstick humour found in other Lego-licensed titles. The game follows the events in the films; however, like the Lego Star Wars series, some scenes from the films have been altered to become more family friendly or just provide comic relief to the player.

The project hopes to reach 10,000 supporters in order for Lego to consider to make it into an official set. LEGO Lord of the Rings: The Video Game by Traveller's Tales was released on October 30, 2012 for handheld consoles and November 13, 2012 for other platforms.

It was released on Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS, Mac OS X, iPhone, and iPad. The Mac OS X version was published by Feral Interactive and was released on February 21, 2013. [1] It was released November 7, 2013 for iOS.

The game takes players through the events of all three movies and is the second LEGO video game to feature fully voiced cutscenes. Though it follows the events of Peter Jackson's film trilogy, many comical twists are added in. It has the largest game environment so far of any LEGO video game, letting players explore an open world map of Middle-earth (though locations are greatly decreased in size). It also has dozens of new features not seen in past LEGO video games. Players can complete side quests, create items to use from mithril, access a large variety of collectible items from the "treasure trove", and there is a variety of characters with unique items possessing special abilities.

Mount Doom: Frodo and Sam have a final showdown with Gollum. In the end, Gollum falls into the Cracks of Doom and dies, and the One Ring is destroyed, killing Sauron and saving Middle-earth.

The gameplay in The Lord of the Rings is slightly different than other LEGO games developed by TT Games. In the first sections, players move similarly to other games like LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game, running, jumping, fighting, and tagging. Then new mechanics are added, such as jumping to avoid attacks (in a manner similar to Super Mario Galaxy) and slow movement and rolls when sneaking past Nazgûl. In addition, in between levels are open world spaces that players run through, and beginning with The Two Towers, a path of players can be chosen before a level (i.e. Frodo, Gollum and Sam on one adventure and Aragorn and the rest of the Fellowship on another. Players also control larger characters (with other characters "piloting" them, such as a cave troll or Treebeard).

Based on The Lord of the Rings motion picture trilogy, LEGO® The Lord of the Rings follows the original storylines of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, taking players through the epic story events reimagined with the humor and endless variety of LEGO play.

Trusted with the dangerous task to destroy an ancient magical ring that threatens all that is good, Frodo is forced to leave his peaceful home. But the ring wants to be found and the road to Mount Doom, the only place where it can be destroyed, will be perilous and riddled with Orcs and fouler things.

To help Frodo, a Fellowship is formed — Aragorn the Ranger, Gandalf the Wizard, Legolas the Elf, Gimli the Dwarf, Boromir a Man of Gondor, and Frodo’s Hobbit friends Sam, Merry and Pippin. Players relive the legend in LEGO form, as they explore wonders, solve timeless riddles, and overcome endless foes in their quest to destroy the Ring.

Play with family and friends with easy access drop-in, drop-out gameplay option.

The macOS (OS X) version of this game does not work on macOS Catalina (version 10.15) or later due to the removal of support for 32-bit-only apps.

Right-click LEGOLOTR.exe .
From the drop-down menu, select Properties.
Once the window is open, select the Compatibility tab.
Check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for:".
In the next drop-down, select "Windows 7".
Click "OK".

Some users also reported that traveling to Hobbiton via the map, running back to and crossing the river with the ferry while leaving the hobbits behind allowed them to run through the area without crashes. [6]
