Differences Between the film and the game

• Lucy wasn't captured by General Mayhem in Apocalypseburg.
• The DUPLO Creatures are made of with LEGO bricks as opposed to Duplo Bricks in the film.
• The DUPLO version of Wonder Woman is omitted for some reasons.
• Rex Dangervest dies in the Systar System instead of the Climax.

Reception

Like the Movie, The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame also received generally "mixed or average" reviews on Metacritic getting a metascore of 56/100 on both PC [1] & Nintendo Switch, [2] 57/100 on PS4, [3] and 65/100 on Xbox One. [4]

Своеобразный пик выхода игр, основывающихся на громких кино-блокбастерах и популярных сериалах, остался где-то в конце 90-х – начале 2000-х. За следующие полтора десятка лет уровень графики шагнул далеко вперёд, а затраты на разработку выросли в разы. Да и согласитесь, если игра изначально задумывается, как побочный продукт, приуроченный к выходу нового фильма, продюсеры вряд ли одобрят бюджет, сопоставимый с современным AAA-проектом. Однако это вовсе не значит, что такие игры больше не создаются. К примеру, в начале февраля на большие экраны вышел полнометражный анимационный фильм «ЛЕГО Фильм-2» и, по традиции, Warner Bros. Interactive не оставила нас без видеоигровой адаптации. Появившаяся на свет The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame на первый взгляд, действительно, демонстрирует некоторые черты побочного кинопродукта, но ситуацию всё-таки спасает пресловутая магия кирпичиков Lego!

Первое, что стоит иметь в виду: если вы знакомы с вселенной «ЛЕГО Фильмов», то перенёсшееся на экраны игровых устройств действо вас ничуть не смутит. В ином случае, чтобы лучше понять, что же всё-таки происходит, можно хотя бы бегло ознакомиться с первоисточником или…достаточно просто любить датский конструктор Lego.

Основной сюжет The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame с определённой вольностью следует истории одноимённого полнометражного фильма. Загадочная злодейка из космоса – генерал Катавасия похищает выдающихся граждан Апокалипсис-града (бывший Кирпич-град), чтобы насильно женить одного из них на королеве Многолике, а остальных заставить присутствовать на намечающейся церемонии. Что это означает для игрока? Пора отправляться в большое путешествие для спасения друзей!

Несмотря на возрастной рейтинг 6+, The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame пестрит немалым количеством пасхалок и отсылок к другим современным фильмам и популярным вселенным. Например, Апокалипсис-град, опустошённый непрекращающимися нападениями захватчиков из предназначенного для детей младшего возраста конструктора LEGO DUPLO, обязательно напомнит и о вселенной Безумного Макса (особенно о фильме 2015 года) и даже о моде недавнего времени на…фиолетовый пост-апокалипсис. Да-да, Far Cry New Dawn и Rage 2, это касается именно вас! Иными словами, самые разные категории игроков обязательно приметят для себя что-то интересное.

Геймплей на этот раз, пожалуй, ещё больше, чем обычно в Lego-играх склоняется в сторону «песочницы». У нас есть основной сюжет и необходимость двигаться от цели к цели, но между следованием из пункта «а» в пункт «б» мы можем сколько угодно отвлекаться на побочные задания, исследование достаточно больших уровней почти что открытого мира, да и для завершения каждого уровня необходимо будет собрать 10-15 фиолетовых Суперблоков, а где именно вы их добудете – дело ваше.

Карта вселенной The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame выглядит достаточно масштабной, но здесь и кроется основной недостаток игры. Предлагаемые для исследования миры хоть и не кажутся на первый взгляд пустыми – порой оставляют именно такое послевкусие. Особенно же это ощущается, когда вокруг тебя большое количество лего-домов, зданий и других объектов, но порой им словно не хватает внешней проработанности и детализированности интерьеров, а нередко в них и вовсе невозможно зайти – как результат, иные планеты выглядят так, будто их посетили лангольеры Стивена Кинга! Это очень удивляет после тщательно проработанных строений в предыдущих Lego-играх, вроде недавней Lego DC Super-Villains. Тем не менее, по сюжету мы, действительно, наблюдаем апокалипсис галактических масштабов, так что можно списать разруху на него.

Вместе с тем, отдельные миры, наоборот, получились запоминающимися и даже по-своему впечатляющими. Например, мне очень понравилась планета-джунгли, населённая разумными велоцирапторами и необычным народом, построившим множество храмов, гробниц и ступенчатых пирамид вроде тех, что можно найти в Латинской Америке.

Вне основного сюжета все побочные задания сводятся к одним и тем же чередующимся друг с другом шаблонным действиям: построй объект, отнеси предмет, сразись с врагами, сфотографируй персонажей и так далее. Кому-то это может уже достаточно быстро наскучить, но ситуацию хоть как-то спасают традиционные для Legо-проектов поиски секретов, новых персонажей, оружия, предметов кастомизации, а также чертежей для строительства транспортных средств и даже зданий.

Селфи с человеком-пломбиром? Почему бы и нет!

Наконец, чтобы получить доступ в каждый уголок карты и выполнить все побочные задания, нам понадобится особое снаряжение и способности – тут всё тоже весьма традиционно. Только если в предыдущих Lego-играх необходимые для этого умения можно было заполучить в комплекте с постепенно открываемыми персонажами, в The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame мы обретаем их вместе с выдаваемыми по сюжету предметами: крюком-лебёдкой Бэтмена, энерго-кулаками, сварочным аппаратом Бенни и так далее.

Что касается схем для строительства, то, помимо возведения позволяющих преодолевать препятствия батутов-прыгунов, питающих неработающую технику электрогенераторов и других полезных объектов, мы будем также коллекционировать инструкции для сборки полноценных Legо-наборов. Для чего? Чтобы удовлетворить возможно дремлющую в нас тягу к созиданию и построить на территории специально предназначенного для этого мира целый город.

Это Доктор Пёс из серии конструкторов Lego Fabuland, выпускавшейся с 1979 года, и он классный!

Большую часть пополняющих наш внутриигровой каталог объектов мы будем получать из так называемых «Реликвий» – капсул, содержащих случайные минифигурки, транспортные средства, оружие или здания. Однако мне открытие «Реликвий» запомнилось ещё и одним некритичным, но вызывающим раздражением багом. Я смог насчитать три раза, когда игра прекращала реагировать на мои команды после вскрытия очередного контейнера со случайными призами. После этого приходилось выходить в главное меню консоли через кнопку «PS» и запускать игру заново. К счастью, частые автосохранения не позволяли лишиться какого-либо прогресса!

Отдельного упоминания заслуживают немногочисленные, но весьма зрелищные сражения с боссами. Эти эпизоды неплохо разнообразят игровой процесс эпичными сценами на уровне среднестатистических блокбастеров – только в роли боссов колоссальные инопланетные монстры, построенные из линейки конструктов LEGO DUPLO, предназначенной для детей 1.5-5 лет – со всеми вытекающими особенностями их внешнего вида.

Пожалуй, единственное, что немного выдаёт направленность проекта и на детскую аудиторию тоже, это сравнительно небольшое количество сражений. С другой стороны, учитывая традиционно невысокий уровень сложности Lego-игр, альтернатива в виде уровней, перенаселённых мрущими пачками противниками, очень утомляла бы, а потому с таким решением легко согласиться. К тому же, время от времени всё-таки будут встречаться рядовые или отличающиеся наличием уязвимых точек противники, но большую часть времени геймплей концентрируется на исследовании уровней, а не на битвах.

Если же вас волнует вопрос продолжительности игры – в целом, она не большая. Это связано ещё и с тем, что некоторые планеты даже не обязательны для посещения, если сконцентрироваться только на основном сюжете. Однако уже очень скоро выйдет бесплатное обновление с тремя новыми мирами и дополняющими историю сюжетными миссиями.

Визуальный ряд игр про самый знаменитый конструктор в мире не сильно прогрессирует от проекта к проекту, и потому следует принять простой факт – изображение пластиковых деталек и минифигурок в данном случае настолько же хорошо, насколько позволяют это современные технологии, и точка. То же касается и звукового сопровождения в виде хороших, порой застревающих в голове на какое-то время композиций и фирменных леговских звуков – тех, которые мы бы услышали, если бы, например, высыпали из коробки несколько килограммов Lego-кубиков.

В качестве единственного минуса технической стороны я бы назвал ужасное поведение камеры внутри небольших строений. А происходит следующее: стены зданий не исчезают целиком и закрывают персонажа, угол обзора начинает выворачиваться под немыслимыми углами, одновременно с этим в глазах начинает рябить от сильно увеличенных текстур с Lego-кирпичиками…в общем, я никогда не чувствовал головокружения на американских горках или при прохождении самых безумных игр, но на этот раз был близок к подобным ощущениям!

Игра не обделена текстовой русской локализацией, в которой не удалось обнаружить ни одной опечатки! Стоит также отметить, что переводчики неплохо потрудились над именами персонажей и всевозможными названиями – порой результаты выглядят забавно и оригинально, а порой немного бредово, но, в целом, всё соответствует царящему на экране настроению. Например, генерал Катавасия определённо ощущается бодрее, чем банальная General Mayhem, а вот мороженщик Миша (Mike) и строительница Галя (Gail), а также одна из ключевых героинь истории – Люся (Lucy) могут кому-то не прийтись по вкусу, но звучат так трогательно, что…а почему бы и нет?

The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame являет собой пример весьма неплохого сопутствующего продукта, приуроченного к выходу одноимённого анимационного фильма, и менее самостоятельного проекта, если рассматривать его отдельно от первоисточника. Игре немного не хватило контента и разнообразия, но, вместе с тем, она всё равно должна прийтись по вкусу всем любителям конструктора Lego и его видеоигровых воплощений. Наконец, наличие отсылок к громким блокбастерам и даже другим играм последних лет может показаться интересным и более широкой аудитории самых разных возрастов.

The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame for Nintendo Switch is the sequel to the game based on the movie, which is based on the colorful bricks we all know and love. I mean, the title says it all, really. It’s also the latest in a long, long line of LEGO games. We know the ropes by now, so how does this one stack up against the rest? Pretty well, as it turns out.

This game has a good reason to try harder than most. Sequels are frequently less appealing than the original. Games based on movies also have a bad reputation. In 2019, LEGO games are becoming long in the tooth. Thankfully, what could have been a lazy game instead beats the odds by combining old and new elements into the LEGO gaming world.

The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame is divided into three systems, each home to a number of planets just ripe for exploring. You’ll find areas based on both the first and second movie in here. For example, you can explore the Old West. Your adventure begins in Apocalypseburg, one of the seven planets in the Systar System. Another six sit in the Rex-Plorer System. Finally, there’s the Galactic Outskirts, which hold locked planets promising free downloadable worlds in the future.

There’s plenty to do in the LEGO Movie 2 Videogame, and I love the way you can choose your own adventure. There is a story to follow – loosely based on the new movie – but there are sections that are free to explore, where you can make your own story by helping characters with side quests. This adds variety and longevity to the game, since you’ll be coming back for more after completing the story. It also lends itself to exploration and sandpit mechanics, rather than merely beating up bad guys. There are puzzle elements too, and these all work together well.

As with most LEGO games, apart from the main quest, you’ll work toward completing the game with 100% by collecting everything – and there’s a lot to collect. Purple bricks are the main collectible, hiding in hard-to-reach places or serving as the reward for completing missions. There are bricks and coins to collect too, which are used to unlock other items, like characters, vehicles or Build Pages. The latter is a new feature that allows you to build certain objects to help you within the game – like a trampoline to reach new areas. It’s a nice touch that you need to collect the right colors to build the object.

The graphics are great, as bright and colorful as the movie. The characters move in a stop-motion kind of way, not as smoothly as previous LEGO games. This fits in with the movie’s depiction of these characters as static LEGO minifigures that are simply being moved around by kids.

The audio is a highlight too, with many bright and poppy songs and remixes from the movie. The voice acting is well done, though I’m fairly certain it’s not the same voice actors as the movie. Chris Pratt and friends don’t seem to have been hired for the game version, and some impersonations are better than others – Batman is indistinguishable from Will Arnett, for example. Others are accurate enough to get you by. Emmett himself barely speaks for some reason, simply making “oof” noises when he’s hurt.

Once unlocked, you can swap characters any time during play. And everyone is here, from Benny the astronaut to President Business. A second player can drop in or out via co-op mode, a common feature in LEGO games by now, and this works well.

There are a few negatives that stop this from being completely awesome. Another LEGO game staple is long loading times, and the LEGO Movie 2 Videogame is no different. There are some painfully long loading times when switching between planets. Thankfully, with so much to do on each one, these are generally not an issue for every play session. Once you start switching between planets more frequently – say, to hit that elusive 100% target – things become more irritating. On the bright side, you’ll have plenty of time to fix a snack or make some tea while it loads. Even returning to the main title screen from within the game takes a long time.

There are also a few glitches. I’m not even sure what triggers them, but occasionally you’ll be happily playing when – bam! – the game throws an error message in your face and you’re forced to restart. This happened more than once during my first hour, but rarely after that. A few other oddities were noticed, like when my vehicle was destroyed during a race, yet I was able to complete the race on foot. I guess I got the purple brick at least.

Overall, the LEGO Movie 2 Videogame is a fun game and a great addition to the LEGO collection of games. It’s not my favorite game (will anything ever beat LEGO Star Wars?) but I’m happy to report that it’s well made and entertaining. The mix of exploration, sandpit and story elements makes it feel fresher than recent entries. It’s also just cool to walk around as Emmet or Wildstyle while talking to the likes of Batman and Unikitty. This one is worth checking out, especially if you’re a fan of the movie.

The Lego Movie 2 Videogame is a 2019 Lego-themed sandbox action-adventure video game based on the 2019 theatrical movie of the same name that was developed by Traveller's Tales and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The game is a direct stand-alone sequel and the second and final installment to The Lego Movie Videogame, as well as the last Lego Movie video game to be published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, before Warner Bros. sold the Lego movie rights to Universal Pictures in 2020, although Warner Bros. still owns the The Lego Movie characters and movies they released.

Gameplay

The game loosely follows the plot of the film. The game borrows from Lego Worlds, and has new additional characters and refined combat mechanics, as well as those from the first game. Worlds and characters from both films are featured in the game. Players create various structures in order to access new levels.

Bad Qualities

1. The game overall is just the basic rehash/reskin of Lego Worlds, but with The Lego Movie 2-style on it, which includes all the flaws from that game (such as the camera system clipping through the terrain in several parts, for example).
2. There are no levels in the game. Not even a checkpoint as well. They were a staple in Lego video games. Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins did a similar thing, but therefore was pulled off in a better way. The advertising claimed that there are levels in this game, but in reality there are none.
3. It's way too easy to beat, compared to the past LEGO games, which most likely seems to be targeting young children and more mature gamers will find it as a cakewalk if you don't collect Master Pieces and completing quests. On top of that, many of the side quests drag on for too long.
4. Very long loading times, which it feels you must quit the game.
5. The adventure open worlds are very bland and uninteresting to explore and feel like there is no soul put into them.
6. There are some pretty notable bugs and graphical glitches in every bit of the game.
7. Does a poor job for following the plot of the movie. For example, in The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, Emmet's friends are captured by General Mayhem. But while Emmet's friends does still seem to be captured, Wyldstyle doesn't get captured in the game instead and the true villain isn't the final boss as the movie's climax is explained in a couple of sentences in the ending cutscene. Oh, and speaking of cutscenes, they are unskippable, which made it worse. None of the cutscenes are voiced (or recreated from the scenes from the movie!), with only Lucy narrating everything, and the ending is blatantly forced and unfinished.
   • Speaking of the final boss, the battle is very easy as it is extremely short. Every character is climbing to the top instead of fighting.
8. Out of all of the LEGO games, this is easily one of the most repetitive of all time.
9. Although there are a lot of characters to play as, the game completely omits special character abilities, compared to the other Lego games, mostly because the game itself is a reskin of Lego Worlds, as mentioned.
10. This game has a major lack of replay value for completing quests and fighting boss battles. If you want to replay, all you have to do choose a different save slot and play the game again.
11. Lackluster DLC. Just like the main game, there are absolutely no levels in this game, too, neither boss fights as well. (example: "Prophecy Pack".)
    • The Prophecy Pack are pre-order only characters, meaning it's impossible to obtain them unless someone didn't use the pre-order code that came with the game.
12. A dated reference involving every character on screen doing the "shoot" dance, which occurs at the end of the game. And people thought Lego Batman flossing in the movie itself was bad, so. what?
13. The game adds a bunch of characters that never appeared in the movie, such as all of DUPLO animals, Vitruvius, and even the Super Secret Police robots.
14. The Nintendo Switch version of the game is even worse and has a plethora of performance problems.
15. Unlike the movie itself, this game ended the original Lego Movie franchise in an average way. Though to be fair, this probably wasn't intended to be the last video game in the original franchise, as the box office disappointments of both The Lego Ninjago Movie and The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part caused Warner Bros. to terminate their film rights with Lego in December 2019, resulting in Lego moving on to work with Universal Pictures in 2020, while Warner Bros. still owns the rights to their run of The Lego Movie franchise.
    • Fortunately, however, this wasn't the last thing to come out of the original franchise, as the Unikitty series finale, "The Birthday To End All Birthdays", ended both the series and the original franchise on a high note.

Good Qualities

1. The soundtrack is good.
2. Fluent controls, as expected from other LEGO games.
3. The film's good sense of humor is still present.
4. The graphics are nice and great to look at, even for 2010s, LEGO and TT Games standards.
5. The voice acting is good, even though the voice actors featured are relatively unknown and obscure as well as not to reprise the role from the movie.
6. Like the first game, there are plenty of characters to play as like Emmet, Lucy, Batman, Unikitty, Benny, Metalbeard, General Mayhem, Rex, and many more, despite the game ommiting special abilities.
7. The designs of the adventure worlds are well crafted and really capture the look of the film.
8. As expected for Lego games, the framerate is decent.
9. A well-placed and controllable camera, like other Lego games.

Reception

The announcement of The Lego Movie 2 Videogame was hyped by many gamers and fans alike, but while the first game was well-received and even has it on TV Tropes, when this was released, it wasn't well-received, known as mixed reviews by critics, gamers and fans alike due to being built off of Lego Worlds. On Metacritic, the Nintendo Switch version of The Lego Movie 2 Videogame has a Metascore of 56 out of 100 points, based on 9 reviews, the PlayStation 4 version has a Metascore of 57 out of 100 points, based on 23 reviews, the Xbox One version has a Metascore of 65 out of 100 points, based on 9 reviews, while the PC version has a Metascore of 56 out of 100 points, based on 4 reviews. The result is an obvious beta that many fans consider to be the worst Lego game ever released.
