The Mutant Dinosaurs, informally called Mutant Dinos, are races of dinosaurs that were mutated by XERRD and released to wreak havoc on the LEGO Planet.

History [ ]

The first formula for the Mutant Dinos' mutation was written as early as 2001 by Evil Ogel. However, he decided against using it, as he feared that the Mutant Dinos would be too powerful and dangerous, and could thus turn against him and his drone armies. However, he left this formula in one of his bases, and this base was infiltrated by two Alpha Team agents: Dr. Rex and the original Frozeen. Frozeen was unaware of the formula's existence, since Dr. Rex had kept it a secret and hid it away after stealing it.

In 2010, Dr. Rex was under the influence of Baron Typhonus. He believed that Minifigkind was doomed to destruction, and that mutant dinosaurs were destined to rule the LEGO Planet. He uncovered the Mutant Dino formula and used it to mutate four dinosaur specimens, which would be considered the 'prototype' Mutant Dinos, one of which was Rex. Dr. Rex decided that these Mutant Dinos were not enough, and so altered the formula to include the energies of the Maelstrom, granting the mutants extraordinary powers.

In April 2010, after a large number of these powered Mutant Dinos were mutated by XERRD, Dr. Rex began to allow them to spread all over the LEGO Planet by means of teleportation and sneaking aboard cargo ships. The Mutant Dinos devastated the planet, leaving cities in ruin and killing many Minifigs in their rampage. This event, known as the "Dino Attack", led to the creation of the Dino Attack Team to combat these creatures.

The Dino Attack continued for the rest of the year, and the Mutant Dinos continuously clashed with the Dino Attack Team in places such as LEGO City, LEGO Island, and Adventurers' Island. Some idealist Dino Attack agents preferred to capture and tame Mutant Dinos, giving them the willpower to overcome Dr. Rex's control. However, as Dr. Rex's grasp on the Maelstrom grew, the Mutant Dinos were forced to bend to his will and form his personal army. Even worse, as the Maelstrom's power also grew, the Darkitect drove the Mutant Dinos' urges to destroy, making them even more dangerous.

On December 21, 2010, Dr. Rex gathered as many Mutant Dinos as he could and attacked LEGO City, with the intent of destroying Dino Attack Headquarters and defeating the Dino Attack Team. Despite the overwhelmingly large Mutant Dino army, Dino Attack Team and its allies were able to hold off against the dinosaurs long enough for the Einstein Device to be finished. Once the Einstein Device was fired, the resulting Imagination fallout wiped out most of the Mutant Dino army.

With Dr. Rex dead and the Darkitect forever banished from the LEGO Planet, the surviving Mutant Dinos were left without anyone controlling them, leaving them wild and aimless. Over the following months, the Mutant Dinos were hunted down by Dino Attack Team and either killed or cured, the latter in part by a Mutant Dino cure developed by XERRD under Dr. Cyborg's leadership.

Biology [ ]

The venom used to mutate the Dinos has been analyzed by the Dino Attack Team, who have managed to find semi-cures for it. However, the wing of Dino Attack Headquarters which contained these cures has been wrecked in a Mutant T-Rex attack, and many of the cures were lost.

In the Dino Cop-inspired Mutant Dino Serum, the DNA of any Mutant Dino is capable of overriding any other DNA sequence, resulting in a transformation capable of turning even Minifigs into Mutant Dinos. For example, if a Minifig is injected with Mutant Lizard DNA, the Mutant Lizard DNA will override the Minifig's DNA, and the Minifig would transform into a Mutant Lizard. Dino Attack Agents such as Snake of Spades and Amanda Claw have been mutated in this manner, and Dino Attack has been able to find some ways to "cure" these agents as best as possible.

The Maelstrom, a dark destructive force of the LEGO Universe, is a primary part of the formula to mutate the Mutant Dinos and grant them their abilities. Because of the Maelstrom, Mutant Dinos tend to be destructive and hostile by nature, and during the Dino Attack they have destroyed much of the LEGO Planet. It has been shown that, usually with the help of other beings, Mutant Dinos can build their willpower and overcome the urges to destroy. When a Mutant Dino has built enough willpower to break free of the Maelstrom's control and Dr. Rex's enslavement, they are considered "immune" to the Maelstrom's influence.

Dino Attack agent Amanda, who had spent approximately a month as a Mutant T-Rex, noted that being Mutant Dinos induced brain spasms and shortened her temper. This suggests that because the mutation is unnatural and connected to the Maelstrom, it has unhealthy side-effects. Mutant Dinos also seem to dislike the mutation and want to keep others from undergoing it, as evidenced when an unidentified Mutant Raptor told Rex and Chompy to turn back when they were heading for the Dino Island Laboratory.

Mutant Dinos also seem to share a universal language, and all four breeds can communicate with each other with ease. At first glance, Mutant Dinos may seem like unintelligent beasts, but those who can translate their universal language have discovered that Mutant Dinos are actually quite intelligent, such as Trouble or Tex. This has raised moral debates amongst the Dino Attack Team.

Main Species [ ]

There are four standard breeds of the Mutant Dinos. Each breed has been mutated to have a special power. Among the Lizard breed, however, there are many sub-breeds that individually have separate powers.

Mutant Lizards [ ]

All Mutant Lizards have increased speed, even compared to their un-mutated versions. Mutant Lizards are the breed with the most variety. The powers of Mutant Lizards vary, from chameleon abilities to acid, or from heightened stealth to fire-breathing. They are the most common breed and are encountered the most by Dino Attack, but primarily in large groups where they are the most dangerous. They are skilled at infiltrating Dino Attack bases and at adapting to tactics used against them.

Mutant Raptors [ ]

Mutant Raptors are considered the perfect hunters. With enhanced sight and hearing, they can track down any prey and are strong enough to tear even a Fire Hammer to pieces. In addition, they possess force fields that shield them from most attacks, although they are vulnerable to the Dino Attack Team's Cosmotronic Rays.

Mutant Pterosaurs [ ]

Mutant Pterosaurs are the masters of the skies. They possess incredible skill, speed, and agility, making them difficult to shoot when they are in flight. They also fire lightning bolts from the tips of their wings, allowing the Mutant Pterosaurs to shoot down aircrafts or rain electricity on unfortunate prey down below.

Mutant T-Rexes [ ]

Kings of the Mutant Dinosaurs, the Mutant T-Rexes are the ultimate danger to the LEGO Planet. They can demolish buildings with one sweep of their tails or bite through solid steel. Their laser vision protects them from aerial attack, and their mouths are internal furnaces that can disintegrate almost anything they close their jaws upon.

Other Species [ ]

Several other species of Mutant Dino have also appeared, although they are considerably rarer than the main four breeds. Jenson proposed that herbivorous Mutant Dinos cannot cooperate with carnivorous Mutant Dinos, potentially explaining why XERRD did not create as many of them.

While technically not a dinosaur, a Mutant Mosasaur attacked the ship High Charity off the coast of LEGO City; this particular specimen had further enhanced mutations from Green Goo exposure. Peter Walter witnessed a Mutant Spinosaurus destroying a city bank. Very little data is available about either species.

Mutant Triceratops [ ]

The Mutant Triceratops is an aggressive and territorial beast, able to charge at speeds faster than a Fire Hammer. Its skull is nigh invulnerable, and the three deadly horns on its head can vibrate at a frequency to amplify its roars into sonic booms.

Mutant Stegosaurus [ ]

The Mutant Stegosaurus is slow and not particularly intelligent, but makes up for these weaknesses with its sheer bulk allowing it to resist attacks. Its thagomizer is covered with barbed spikes able to demolish an Urban Avenger in a single swing. The plates along the Stegosaurus's back can glow and generate enough heat to cause buildings to melt and vehicles to explode.

Mutant Brontosaurus [ ]

The Mutant Brontosaurus proves to be worthy of the name "thunder lizard". With its incredibly long neck, its head acts as a lightning rod during thunderstorms, allowing it to catch and absorb the electric energies of lightning bolts. It can then release this power through an EMP, instantly disabling all Dino Attack technology within a small radius.

Hybrids [ ]

Some mutant creatures are not even pure dinosaurs, but rather injected with Mutant Dino DNA; notable examples include the Octosaur and Mutant Viking monsters. Though not a true hybrid, the Mutant T-Rex Tex's DNA was affected by Draconic magic, giving her dragon-like abilities and traits, such as fire-breathing, telepathy and speech. The Quasifigus Hybrids, such as the Minifig/Mutant Lizard Hybrid, are biologically-engineered hybrids of Minifigs and Mutant Dinos.

Quotes [ ]

"Those. things are all over the city. They are a major reason why the city is in ruins. unfortunately, they are not the only reason. If you thought that one was bad. just wait till you meet some of the larger ones." — Frank Einstein

Lego Dino

LEGO Dino Attack (released as LEGO Dino 2010 in Europe) is a LEGO Theme released in 2005 and revolving around the conflict of Man Versus Prehistoric Monster. in a modern-day setting!

Compared to most LEGO Themes of the time, LEGO Dino Attack was considerably Darker and Edgier. LEGO, the company that once refused to produce green bricks in fear that kids would built military vehicles (yes, seriously), was now churning out sets featuring tanks and helicopters battling dinosaurs in a post-apocalyptic LEGO City. And not just any dinosaurs, but evil mutants that can shoot lasers out of their eyes, breathe fire, and shoot lightning.

The story is simple. In 2010, dinosaurs (which may be mutants or Ambiguous Robots) come the heck out of nowhere and wreck LEGO City, and four survivors (Specs the all-around scientist, Digger the thrilling paleontologist, Shadow the emotionally-driven hunter, and Viper the drafted racer) form the Dino Attack team and use the latest military technology and weapons to combat the dinosaurs and drive them out of the city.

European countries got a similar-but-different line titled Dino 2010, which moved the apocalyptic setting to the jungle, dropped all references to the dinosaurs being mutants, and changed the premise from a band of survivors fighting to reclaim LEGO City to a team of hunters deployed to recapture escaped dinosaurs. The most notable difference between Dino Attack and Dino 2010 sets is that Dino 2010 removed all of Dino Attack's over-the-top weaponry and replaced it with chains, grappling hooks, and cages. For instance, Dino Attack's Iron Predator, which is clearly supposed to be a tank, lost its cannon and gained a large T-Rex cage attached on a trailer and was renamed the Dino Track Transport.

In 2012, a Spiritual Successor to Dino Attack was released in the form of LEGO Dino, which many fans of Dino Attack and Dino 2010 have nicknamed "Dino 2012".

DINO Attack is a toyline made by LEGO and aimed at 6-12 year-olds. It was launched in July 2005 for the USA, Australia, and Japan, and was released for everyone else October 2005.

Plot line

US, Australian, and Japanese Version

In the year 2010, strange mutant dinosaurs appear, and Shadow, Digger, Specs, and Viper must stop the dinos before it's too late! But these dinosaurs have abilities beyond what Digger thinks. Will the DINO ATTACK team slay the dinos? Or will the world once again fall into ruin? The team utilize several powerful vehicles like the T-1 Typhoon attack helicopter, the Iron Predator assault tank, and the Fire Hammer humvee.

European Version

The European DINO Attack sets are slightly different from their US counterparts. These sets are called DINO 2010, take place after the previous sets mentioned, and instead of large weapons, the sets are given grappling hooks and large cages for capturing Mutant Dinos. The location also seems to have been changed from a ruined city to a deep jungle.

Dino domain

In Dino Attack USA version website, the main site has one flash animation showing the Dino domain around world. These are places where dinosaurs fixed, for order to dino appear:

Characters

  • Shadow is the most driven member of the team. His home city was devastated in the 1st dino attack, and although he survived, his neighborhood was ruined. He has been in every international hot spot, preferring to use the Sonic Screamer first and worry about the dino's intentions later, causing him to fight a lot with Specs.
  • Digger, a famous paleontologist, goes where no dinosaur hunter ever will and goes deeper than others in his search for bones. His knowledge of dinos and aim with his Cosmotronic Ray make him a valuable addition to the team, despite looking for peril. In some versions of the story he's told to do this by the TLF (True LEGO Fan) of the time he is leader of the sqaud
  • Specs is a chemist, paleontologist, biologist, and nuclear physicist. He invented most of the equipment. He also quarrels with Shadow a lot. Nonetheless, he played a huge part in saving Shadow when his neighborhood was destroyed. He is also the Dino 2010 leader.
  • Viper is no scientist and was drafted onto the team. Hence he always calls the dinos scales. He thinks the best way to beat a dino is use what its name means against it. He gets along well with the rest of the team and "Strike first, strike fast, and get away clean" is his motto.

Dinosaurs

  • T-Rex: King of the Dino Attack monsters, the T-Rex is the ultimate creature. It can demolish buildings with one sweep of its tail or bite through solid steel. Its laser vision protects it from aerial attack, and its internal furnace can disintegrate oncoming rockets.

  • Pteranodon: The Dino Attack "air force". The pteranodon is used for scouting missions and for launching attacks on the T-1 Typhoon. Its skill, speed, and agility make it hard to hit when in flight, and the lightning bolts it shoots from the tips of its wings make it a formidable force.

Powers: Flight; agility; lightning vision.

  • Raptor: The complete hunter. With enhanced sight and hearing, it can track down any prey and is strong enough to tear the Fire Hammer to bits. Its force field can shield it from most attacks, although it is vulnerable to the Cosmotronic Ray.

Powers: Strength; speed, heightened senses; force field.

  • Mutant Lizards: The bulk of the Dino army is made up of these mutant lizards. Powers vary based on breed, and they have shown the ability to adapt to attacks made against them (so the same thing rarely works twice).´ Particularly skilled at infiltrating bases.

Powers: Speed, and various assorted abilities, including chameleon powers, acid, darkness, heightened stealth, and fire-breathing. Not particularly strong individual, but they usually operate in groups.

Vehicles and Weapons

Dino Attack

  • Street Sprinter: An ATV used by Digger to target small Mutant lizards. As expected for its small size, it is quite a fast vehicle. It has a satellite to locate targets.
    • Cosmotronic Ray: A portable weapon used by Digger that shoots green rays to take out Mutant Lizards.
    • Sonic Screamer: A long range weapon that fires ultra-high frequency sound waves.
    • Xenon Multi-Mode Launcher: A bulky launcher which fires solidified Xenon at its enemies. It also has extra ammo on each side.
