LEGO Speed Champions is a LEGO theme that is inspired by racing or auto-racing cars. The first set under the LEGO Speed Champions set was released in 2015. This set was the 75913: F14 T & Scuderia Ferrari Truck and it was officially premiered in March 2015. In the first batch of releases, LEGO Speed Champions focused on Ferraris, McLaren, and Porsches however as time went by they added other cars like Bugattis, Audi and Jaguar amongst others. These cars usually cost anywhere from fifty thousand dollars to as much as three million dollars. The LEGO versions are much cheaper ranging from about 20 American dollars to 100 American dollars. As of 2019, there are about 40 known sets under the LEGO Speed Champions theme some of which are set to be released in 2020.

Some of these new sets are the first of their kind to be added to this theme. For example, two of these sets are inspired by Lamborghini and Nissan. In honor of the luxury vehicle, Lamborghini joining the league of LEGO vehicles, we have decided to provide a list of every single set under the LEGO Speed Champions theme and arrange them according to the number of pieces. We do not know the number of pieces the 76896: Nissan GT-R Nismo, or the microscale 30342: Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO will have upon release but there is no doubt that there will be bigger sets to look forward to in 2020. Before they arrive, however, we shall acknowledge the present sets and provide you with an accurate list. Without further ado, here are all forty LEGO Speed Champions sets ranked according to the number of pieces.

This set is made up of 391 pieces which are just shy of 400. The LEGO Porsche 911 RSR is a replica of the Porsche 911 RSR. Porsche refers to this supercar as the spearhead of the 911 series. The car was specifically created for optimal endurance in racing, hence the name "RSR" which is an abbreviation of "Rennsport", the German word for "racing." The LEGO Porsche 911 RSR is slightly bigger than most cars in the Speed Champions theme. It is 2 inches wide, one inch high and 6 inches long.

The Porsche 911 Turbo 3.0 on the other hand also appears in another LEGO set but the supercar is the sole focus of the set. The LEGO Porsche 911 Turbo 3.0 has roughly the same measurements as the 911 RSR however the Turbo 3.0 is 5 inches long not 6.

The 2020 LEGO Speed Champions sets: Ferrari F8 Tributo, 1985 Audi Sport quattro S1, Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo, Lamborghini Urus ST-X, Panasonic Jaguar Racing GEN 2 and Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY and the Nissan GT-R Nismo models.

76895 - Ferrari F8 Tributo

The LEGO Speed Champions Ferrari F8 Tributo, set 76895 top angle. The bonnet vent is especially obvious from this angle.

One of the most striking details on the F8, especially compared to the Lamborghini Huracan model is the built out transparent engine cover on the back of the model. LEGO have gone for the traditional Ferrari red marketing colour for this model which looks great as always. Sure to frustrate MOC creators and people keen to retrofit their 6 wide speed champions, the new wider windscreen appears to have the pillars pre-printed onto it to create the look of the car (that detail being a sticker wrapping around the windscreen would be difficult to apply!) The windscreen lifts off to allow access to the interior of the car. We haven't seen confirmation but given this new 8 wide style, it's possible two minifigures will fit side by side in the cabin.

The side profile of the Speed Champions Ferrari F8 Tributo emphasises how low and angular LEGO have made this model. There's virtually no height to the model over the front wheel arch.

This set is rumoured to have around 275 pieces and retail at US$ 19.99, which makes a lot of sense when you see how many small pieces have been used to create the angles and shape of the model. This new model in particular of the new 8 wide sets seems to carry the detail trend from last year's McLaren Senna. These new Speed Champions models follow the tend of the '74 Turbo 3.0 from last year in having only a few studs visible on each side to give the model a LEGO set look whilst getting the overall shape of this model as close as possible to the real life vehicle.

The rear of the Speed Champions Ferrari F8 Tributo, with the iconic 4 rear lights - Ferrari badge and licence plate stickers and two beefy tailpipes. The new diffuser style, using the sloped, rounded corners sideways on the bottom of the model looks great.

The box art for this single car set shows off the rear window/engine cover detail which is almost identical to that of this year's Ferrari F40 Competizione set. The set is pictured only on these five spoke wheel trims so we'll have to wait until January to see if there's another option in the box.

76896 - Nissan GT-R NISMO

LEGO Speed Champions set 76896, the Nissan GT-R NISMO in race livery

The last model to be revealed, in a live webcast with Nissan Japan this is our first entry into the Speed Champions line up from a Japanese car company. The Nissan NISMO GT-R is based on an R35 Nissan Skyline and is Nissan's most prestigious motorsport model. The LEGO set is released in a motorsport livery (even though the set itself premiered against a road car). This set has been released in Nissan's signature motorsport colours, with a primarily white body, black details and red highlights.

76897 - 1985 Audi Sport quattro S1

The Speed Champions line hasn't been afraid to put out models of historic cars - the latest release this year, of the 1974 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.0, should leave us in no doubt about that. Audi has been absent from Speed Champions for a few years now, having had the R8 LMS and R18 e-tron endurance racer sets - we haven't seen a Speed Champions model of a road car Audi so far. Now for 2020 we're seeing this Group B rally monster come roaring back from Audi Sport's history. This model makes good use of the 8 wide format, with two optional banks of spotlights for the front of the model for that 'night stage' look.

The LEGO Speed Champions 1985 Audi Sport quattro S1 in its classic yellow and white livery from rally days. Hard to miss this model being 8 wide with that wide splitter and the two fog light banks on the front of the model. The wide arch nature of this set would have been difficult to replicate in the old 6 wide format.

The wide arch nature of this set would have been difficult to replicate in the old 6 wide format.

The model is in the period correct Audi Sport yellow and white livery, with minimal stickering used. This set can be the hope of those wanting to modify their older Speed Champions sets as it does appear the wider windscreen used here has an "Audi Team" sticker applied rather than a pre-printed graphic. Given this is an 80's car with relatively blocky styling in the real life vehicle, it's not too surprising that the LEGO rendition looks great - the lights are dead on and the overall proportions of the vehicle look great. The set comes with two different style of wheel trims, both in white.

The rear of the Speed Champions Audi Sport quattro S1 with that huge rear wing and showing the rear detail of the model. We're loving this one, with the wide arches, 5 spoke wheels and that neat exhaust detail.

The rear of the model is especially neat, with a number of stickers used around the back to replicate the grills on the real model and the vents on those wide arches. Having the wheel arches outboard of the actual cabin of the vehicle gives it that rally look and makes use of the extra width on the models. The set is slated to have around 250 pieces.

As LEGO tend to make it very clear where stickers are on their renders (possibly to avoid dissapointment when people have to apply them?) it does look like the Audi Sport bonnet graphics on this set may be printed on. Given it's such a prominent area on the vehicle, this would be great news.

LEGO Speed Champions set 76898 - Formula E Panasonic Jaguar Racing GEN2 Car and Jaguar I-PACE eTrophy

As per our original coverage of the Jaguar Speed Champions announcement this Formula E themed twin pack is part of the 2020 line up and coming in relatively cheaply at CAD 39.99. With 565 pieces this forms a budget option against the Lamborghini Twin pack. The set includes two minifigures in Jaguar race suits and a start line gantry with staged lights to replicate some Formula E action.

Speed Champions set 76899 - the Lamborghini twin-pack featuring the Huracan Super Trofeo Evo and Urus ST-X.

The long awaited return of the Lamborghini brand to LEGO is finally happening in 2020 with the Huracan Super Trofeo and Urus STX double pack in the Speed Champions line. This is the largest set announced for the first half of 2020, with 663 pieces and a high retail price of CAD 69.99 for the same number of vehicles as the Jaguar twin pack. there's been much controversy over this price point online. Again with this set a start line with lights is included (I'm almost thinking to placate fans about the price point/make the set feel larger), plus two minifigures.

The full LEGO Speed Champions 2022 line up featuring Mercedes-AMG, Lotus, Aston Martin, Ferrari and Lamborghini. With everything from F1 and Historic Le Mans racers to the supercars of the 80s and modern electric hypercars, there's something for every fan.

The big release for the LEGO Speed Champions line has moved around the last couple of years, and this time we're here in early February welcoming 5 new sets to the range for sale as of March 1, 2022. We had a big announcment of the first four sets - solo Ferrari, Lotus and Lamborghini models with an Aston Martin double pack, followed by the Mercedes-AMG F1 and Project One set shortly afterward, so we've got everything here that we know about for 2022. Interestingly, we saw 6 sets last year - based on the LEGO store being out of stock of everything except the Ford Bronco R/Ford GT double pack, we're thinking that set might be sticking with us a while longer.

Let's jump into the new sets:

    (291 pieces, $19.99 USD/£17.99 GBP/$24.99 CAD) (247 pieces, $19.99 USD/£17.99 GBP/$24.99 CAD) (262 pieces, $19.99 USD/£17.99 GBP/$24.99 CAD) (564 pieces, $29.99 USD/£34.99 GBP/$39.99 CAD) (592 pieces, $39.99 USD/£34.99 GBP/$49.99 CAD)

Against last year's American car heavy Dodge and Chevrolet muscle twin packs, we've come back to Europe - with British, Italian and German brands bringing their race and hypercars. The 8 wide style continues, letting the cars be more detailed and ever closer to the die cast benchmark whilst still maintaining the buildability. LEGO have really focused on handling some of the bigger complaints, with printed pieces and brick-built headlight and taillight combinations used to address some of the fans biggest concerns with the model designs. We've also got a new 2x3 angled bow with additional cutouts that allows the team to provide decoration details to get away from stickered detail.

The historic 1970 Ferrari 512 M Le Mans racer - picking up where the Porsche 917K left off, this model represents Ferrari's racing heritage with a super clean design.

Notably, the lead designer for Speed Champions compared this new 512 M to the Porsche 917K in the pit lane set 75876 from 2016 and the comparison is night and day, there's a lot more length to the model, and the vents on the arches are able to be reflected in built detail.

The all-electric hypercar Lotus Evija in 8 wide Speed Champions form. The historic dark green and yellow Lotus racing livery suits the car and its defining rear light intake vents have made it over to this set. It's great to see the Lotus brand in LEGO.

It's the first time LEGO have released any sets with the Lotus brand, and they've certainly leant heavily on the brand's trademark green and yellow livery. The livery of this set isn't even one that's particularly associated with the Evija, with the box art featuring what appears to be a 3D render of the car in this colour scheme.

The trademark rear intakes inside the wraparound rear lights have been replicated in the model, but it's fair to level a criticism at this model that barring the Lotus badges, it would appear much like a generic supercar model. To be honest, this criticism would hold against the production Evija itself - so we'll reserve final judgement until we see the set itself. The box has a cool theme though, featuring Goodwood house, famed for hosting the Festival of Speed. We've seen Speed Champions sponsorship at Goodwood before, so it'll be interesting to see if there's more to come on this in 2022.

Some small notes on this one - the rear spoiler is actually an upside down dark green surfboard (first time LEGO have done this piece in this colour).

Lamborghini Countach (76908)

In full 80s finery the all-white Lamborghini Countach is probably one of the most requested Speed Champions models and we're finally seeing it - the custom rim plates really make this set.

This is probably one of the most requested additions to the Speed Champions line up, and for those Countach fans they're probably glad LEGO waited until the 8 wide format to complete this model. We've got brick-built head and taillight details, with an interesting arrangement with stickers underneath the headlights for the indicator details. As somewhat of a fan of the Countach it's slightly dissapointing they've gone for a mixture of early and late car details (the Countach started off as quite a simple design and grew many attachments over time - the box art shows a very 80s, late car with all of the styling additions).

From Formula 1 to the road, the Mercedes-AMG F1 W12 and Project One share a powertrain design and represent some of the highest performance cars on the racetrack and street. We've wanted to see a 8 wide F1 car for a while now, and what better than Lewis Hamilton's 2021 championship car in all black.

The Project One hybrid hypercar is based on F1 technology and the car itself is presented in the grey and teal Petronas AMG F1 theme from previous years. We've got a low slung wide profile here, and the rear centre fin is a real focus of the model - reminiscent of the Porsche 919 and Audi R18 LMP1 sets. As with the other 2022 sets, we've got built headlights and taillights and lots of detail in front and rear splitters on the Project One.

The Speed Champions 2021 Mercedes-AMG W12 is crazy to the last attempt at an AMG F1 car - the wheels are far more accurate scales, and modern F1 cars are much longer than they were in 2014. There's a working HALO (as we saw in the Formula E Jaguar) and decorated Pirelli branded tyres with blue wet weather stripes. Pirelli insisted on the treaded tyres having the blue band for realism - LEGO would have preferred white to match the design. Comparing this set with the 2017 Mercedes-AMG F1 cars is night and day in terms of realism and detail.

Sticking with the F1 car, we've got the all-black livery rather than the more traditional Teal & Grey, and it's nice to see LEGO not go to the older livery just to have the sets match. There are some cool details with how the steering wheel is done, and along with the number 44 we've also got a 77 plate in the box for those Valterri Bottas fans. A bit of a shame that LEGO didn't go with a Lewis Hamilton minifigure with this set, but at least we have his number. This set looks to be a great build for LEGO fans, although that it's only available as part of this twin set is a bit of a shame.

Aston Martin have a huge endurance racing program alongside their F1 team and finally seeing their brand on some Speed Champions sets brings us our GT3 and prototype hit.

Finally, and the first time we're seeing the brand in the Speed Champions range - we have two sets featuring Aston Martin. We've previously seen the Creator James Bond DB5, and we'd wondered if we were going to see the brand at 8 wide scale. In this twin pack, we've got a Vantage GT3 and the Valkyrie AMR Pro. We've got a lime green theme going on, with the gray Vantage GT3 featuring lime accents and the Valkyrie entirely in lime green with red accents. Both cars have printed headlights and there are a huge number of interesting design details, from the gaping intake on the front of the GT3 car to the undulating rear wing of the Valkyrie.

The Vantage GT3 is definitely traditional aston martin, with the complex full width rear light detail implemented across the back of the model. Having seen video of this model, it definitely looks like the sculpture around the cockpit and the narrowing at the top will be more appreciable in real life than in pictures. Continuing the theme, the Valkyrie AMR Pro is almost all sculpture, with two baseplates included to accomodate the huge space right in front of the cabin behind the front wheels.

The Valkyrie also features custom wheel covers to replicate the real car, and is built long to replicate the real thing. We're going to see a matching 5-wide polybag version of the Valkyrie AMR Pro, following in the line of the Lamborghini Huracan and McLaren Elva of having smaller replicas. It'll be interesting to see how the step up to 5-wide from 4 improves the detail - things are certainly looking good.
