Three years after The LEGO Movie, Warner Bros./Time Warner Inc. is back in the LEGO toon business with this Dark Knight-led spinoff adventure. The LEGO Movie was a surprisingly terrific smash hit three years ago, riding a wave of strong reviews and clever marketing to a $69 million debut weekend before legging it to $257m domestic (and $425m worldwide) on a $60m budget. So in a skewed way, this may be one of those classic breakout sequel offerings, with the caveat that it's not quite a sequel and it's a franchise that started with a $69m debut weekend.

I don't have exact budget figures, but I'm told this one didn't cost that much more than the previous LEGO Movie, so it can afford a relative comedown and still be a big hit. Having said that, with solid reviews closing the deal just before release and (again) witty previews combining with an inherent interest in all things Batman, this should be an easy win for Warner Bros. Of note, this actually combines two of Warner's three current crown jewel franchises, the LEGO series and the Batman franchise, although if there are any Harry Potter cameos you won't hear about them in this review.

The big test will be this September's Ninjago Movie, as well as the ongoing attempts to create a comparatively vibrant animation empire. Storks was clever and leggy, but a $182 million worldwide on a $70m budget does not a franchise make. Still, if Warner's animation output is defined by periodic blockbuster LEGO movies, plus perhaps smaller-scale LEGO offerings here and there as well, there are worse fates. But let's see how far The LEGO Batman Movie can fly first, especially whether or not it can best the $211m overseas gross of The LEGO Movie.

The Review:

Expectations are a funny thing. Had The LEGO Batman Movie existed within a vacuum or had been a follow-up to a merely halfway decent The LEGO Movie, its visual delights and narrative pleasures would have been an unqualified win. But following the bold and poignant LEGO Movie, a film which dove headfirst into the idea of childhood nostalgia, generational playthings and using the protection of a franchise to take bold risks and invent new wonders, The LEGO Batman Movie is something of a disappointment.

It entertains and amuses, but doesn’t dig as deep as we might expect considering the pedigree. Most of the film’s deeper insights and sharper satire, including a surprisingly poignant conversation between Batman (Will Arnett) and The Joker (Zack Galifianakis), are unleashed in the first act of the film. The picture starts on a promising note, with Will Arnett’s obnoxiously endearing Caped Crusader poking fun at the very idea of a ponderous blockbuster.

The Chris McKay-directed comic adventure starts on a strong note with a gloriously over-the-top curtain raiser action sequence which eventually pits Batman against all his most famous enemies. It’s good and witty fun, full of villain cameos and offhand references to past Batman movies. Yet the action itself is chaotic to a fault. And that animated chaos extends to most of the film’s many fights and chase scenes.

Once order is restored the picture dives headfirst into its actual plot, which is something of a play on what Batman & Robin tried to be about nearly 20 years ago. It too is interested in the idea of a bitter orphan coming to terms with his adulthood and the idea of becoming the head of a surrogate family. Yet, unlike that infamous miss, the villains don’t get in the way of the hero’s journey.

The idea of Batman/Bruce Wayne as an orphan terrified of making personal connections due to fear of loss is a powerful one. It deals with one of the key contradictions of the character, specifically that the would-be lone avenger of the night has built himself a large surrogate family over the decades. Yes, you see this played out on the likes of Arrow and Angel as well. But the first act ends with an unexpected plot development which in turn leads to a narrative distraction.

Without going into details, Bruce ends up accidentally adopting Dick Grayson (Michael Cera) and ensnaring the boy in a foolish scheme involving The Phantom Zone. Like last year’s Batman movie which I otherwise swore not to myself I would not reference, it is dramatically frustrating to watch our hero going through the motions knowing he is being led astray by his own foolishness.

The film makes an early joke at Iron Man’s expense, and it’s fitting as this version of Bruce Wayne resembles Tony Stark and his self-sabotaging recklessness more than anyone else. Moreover, there is a difference between a G-rated version of The God-Damned Batman as a scene-stealing supporting character and said incarnation as an allegedly sympathetic lead. This version of Batman is as much of a jerk, albeit in a different manner, as last year’s controversial big-screen Dark Knight.

There are nuggets of a Gotham City without a need for Batman, as well as a first-act speech by new Commissioner Barbara Gordon (Rosario Dawson) which rather bluntly calls out the whole “Batman = rich costumed vigilante who beats up poor criminals” thing while offering to police Gotham with compassion. Truth be told, there are a lot of good ideas in the first half, to say nothing of diving headfirst into the Batman/Joker co-dependency thing.

If all that feels like I’m being overly critical with a kid-targeted action comedy about Batman made in LEGO form, then you can take the above nitpicks with a grain of salt. The film is unquestionably worth seeing and is relatively amusing from start to finish. My kids enjoyed themselves and, aside from a needless romantic intro for Babs, the film has nothing to apologize for in terms of its gender issues. It picks up steam in its final third, both in terms of spectacle and emotional oomph and ends on a high note.

The animation is marvelously clever and it’s never boring, even if the mayhem threatens to become a matter of diminishing returns. Yet, truth be told, there are a lot of wittily self-satirical DC Comics adaptations out there, such as Batman: The Brave and the Bold and Teen Titans Go!. This film at its deconstructionist peak is a notch below Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders and at its funniest is a notch below the best direct-to-DVD LEGO DC Comics films.

It is good and it is fun, but I do wish more of the references had been a little deeper than the "Hey, I recognize that!" variety. The LEGO Batman Movie is polished, enjoyable and high-quality family entertainment that is clearly a labor of love. But it is basically as good as we all expected The LEGO Movie to be three years ago, which now feels a touch disappointing considering the prior film's stunning artistic triumph.

That may be an unfair burden, but good is not the enemy of perfect. The LEGO Batman Movie is pretty good. And yeah, by default, it’s the best theatrical Batman movie and the best theatrical DC Comics movie since The Dark Knight nearly nine years ago.

Бэтмобиль «Тумблер»: схватка с Пугалом

Он состоит из двух тысяч деталей и включает маленькие фигурки Бэтмена и Джокера, которые можно усаживать в автомобиль.

1 сентября компания LEGO открыла предзаказ на конструктор LEGO DC Batman Batmobile Tumbler, продажи которого начнутся 1 ноября 2021 года. Набор включает в себя 2049 деталей, из которых можно собрать бэтмобиль «Тумблер» длиной 45 сантиметров и шириной 25 сантиметров.

В собранном виде автомобиль предоставляет доступ к передним сиденьям, панели управления и другим деталям. Бэтмобиль можно установить на прочную подставку, чтобы разместить на полке с другими коллекционными предметами. В комплект также входят две минифигурки в виде Бэтмена и Джокера, которые можно разместить внутри транспортного средства.

Согласно описанию, бэтмобиль воссоздали на основе трилогии Кристофера Нолана о Тёмном рыцаре. Цена набора — 230 долларов (около 16 800 рублей).

В первый раз что ле? Это ты ещё не видел, сколько x-вингов в лего выпустили, да и вообще, с момента выхода предыдущей модели прошло 7 лет, так что доебки твои не понятны, ибо 7 лет назад я был студентом, который не мог себе позволить тот бытмобиль (а на бу рынке он стоит под 40к)

У бэтмобиля из Снайдера только одна запоминающаяся сцена: штурм Припяти. И та не в сольнике.

А в чем прикол? Я всегда думал что конструкторы про полёт фантазии, можно строить что хочешь, а тут уже готовое. Никогда не понимал этого.

Тут всё просто. Набор по попсовой лицензии можно впаривать за намного большую цену, чем "полёт фантазии".

Наборы отдельно, ведро с "миллионом" деталек отдельно. Плюс никто не запрещает сконструировать что-то другое из нескольких наборов.

А кто подскажет почему такая цена высокая на любое Лего? Чисто из за бренда? Есть гораздо более дешёвые аналоги..

1) Качество (хотя китайцы сей час очень сильно продвинулись, но непостоянство китайского уровня качества даёт о себе знать), детальки лучше собираются, меньше вариант брака, лучше упаковка и т.д.

2) Конечно же наценка за логотип лего, лего уже не просто компания по производству конструкторов детям, но БРЕНД, который может продавать наборы по гиковским тематикам (супергерои, фильмы, игры, машины) взрослым гикам, у которых есть деньги, много денег. Вся серия лего Архитектура впринципе подаётся как модели 18+ для взрослых успешных дяденек, который могут такое в свой кабинет поставить, где принимают деловых особ)

3) Продолжаем тему брендов, ещё и наценка за бренд Бэтмен (а конкретно за фильм который часто признается одним из лучших кинокомиксов в истории и стал, так сказать, классикой супергеройских фильмов), за бренд ДиСи, а это выплаты лицензиарам, никто-же не даст вот так вот просто делать наборчики по своему мегахайповому бренду.

Love it. This is my first Lego set as an adult. I grabbed a couple mini figures a while back, and have some Kre-O since I’m a TF guy, but no Lego proper sets until now. All my Lego buddies said to get something smaller first before trying something this large and complex, but F that! I jumped right in. Really, it wasn’t that difficult. Instructions are on point, it just takes a while. Did it at night watching TV over 4 days, little at a time. A couple times I put things on backwards or wrong, but it was noticeable before it was too late and fixed, as you may see in some of the build pics. When done, it is a monster measuring about 18 inches long an 6 inches tall. It does roll on the working wheels, and even has a high pitched buzz like the Tumbler spinning up in the movie. Not sure if that’s a product of the tires or on purpose, but it was cool either way. The stand and mini figures are a nice touch, definitely screams display piece with that along side it. Very happy, now I just gotta figure out where to put this thing, and it’s gigantic box! Check out some build pics and shots below, full set in slideshow format after that!
