At first, it started as a challenge. Just something new in his life, not a big deal.
He went 18 hours without eating, not on purpose, but he was just so focused on helping noodle boy and dragon horse girl ( as he’d say ) set up a new invention. One thing lead to another and they ended up hanging out afterwards.
Only after an exchange of stretched out goodbyes did he realize how empty his stomach felt. He debated getting something on the walk home, but his appetite wasn’t apparent. So he counted how many hours it had been since he had eaten, and he decided he could just go a bit longer. Why not stretch it out.
At first he recoiled at the thought-how silly it sounded. Food helps you think properly, and you know, function. How could he proceed with his amazing invention ideas with brain fog?
But something convinced him to keep going.
And so he did.
After several weeks, the Monkey King trained MK as well as giving him advice. However, when the Monkey King learned that Macaque was secretly training with MK so he can steal his powers, he engages with in a fight with him and was able to win after reminding MK about his training.
When the Monkey King was captured by the Spider Queen during New Year's, he, along with the Demon Bull King and several other demons were having their powers extracted until they were freed. He then teamed up with MK's team and the Demon Bull Family to defeat the Spider Demons, but not before realizing that Lady Bone Demon returned.
After learning that Lady Bone Demon was freed from her tomb, he left Flower Fruit Mountain to look for a weapon that could help him defeat her. Although he was too late after he and MK lost their powers, he continued to look for the weapon, but with the help of MK and his team.

Personality
As depicted in the legend in Monkie Kid, the Monkey King is a confident individual, especially in battle. He doesn't shy away from a challenge, regardless of the opponent's size or strength, as seen when he showed no fear in his fight against the Demon Bull King. When he encounters MK at Flower Fruit Mountain, he tells him that the Demon Bull King isn't an actual threat, as he stated that defeating the Demon Bull King would be considered a trial that MK can handle.
Since his retirement upon passing his Golden Staff to MK, the Monkey King has become somewhat lazy, often sitting around Flower Fruit Mountain eating. He doesn't step in fighting demons unless he is giving advice, or it concerns MK's well being. Despite his laziness, the Monkey King makes time to train MK. It is known he may have been quite violent, as he "would've leveled a whole mountain rage" to stop Macaque. [4]
In LEGO Brawls (non-canon)
The Monkey King is a playable character in LEGO Brawls. He is the fourth and final character that can be unlocked after collecting enough Season Trophies in the final week of Season 14 of LEGO Brawls. In addition, the Monkey King also portrays as the mascot for the Flower Fruit Mountain arena.
Appearance
The Monkey King is an anthropomorphic monkey relatively the size of an average human teenager with orange fur covering his body and tail, and peach fur for his torso, and peach skin for his face, ears, hands, and feet. The fur on his head is slicked back, tied in red ribbons. He has a pink heart-shaped marking across his face. He has yellow eyes with a prominent wing and thick black eyebrows.

The Golden Staff is legendary staff that used to belong to Monkey King. It was once used by the Monkey King to imprison the Demon Bull King under a mountain.

Calabash counterpart
When MK was trapped in a magical artifact known as the Calabash, he was sent to a simulation of Megaoplis where everything's perfect. There, he encounters Monkey King's Calabash counterpart, who tried to persuade MK into accepting his new life in the Calabash.

Five-hundred years after the Demon Bull King's imprisonment, Macaque met Monkey King's successor, MK, who wanted Macaque to train him so he could get better. Macaque accepted and slowly corrupted MK as he trained him until he stole his powers, getting the same abilities as Monkey King's. Eventually, he engaged in a battle with Monkey King and was later defeated by MK.
As time passed, Macaque posed as a puppeteer to kidnap MK's friends while telling his story about him and Monkey King to MK, who relates heavily. After learning about MK's insecurities, Macaque toys with MK by having the shadow versions of his friends fight him until he changed his mind, and later warned MK about something he'll deal with in the future. Before Macaque could do anything else, he was encountered by the Mayor.

History
Early Life
Macaque and the Monkey King started out as friends and fought alongside each other in the Celestial Realm and on Earth. However, as the Monkey King continued to get more powerful, Macaque was left behind and grew a disliking for the Monkey King. [4]
Eventually, Macaque engaged in a battle with the Monkey King and lost. But, a demon named the Lady Bone Demon saved him in exchange for him freeing her from an ancient tomb, which Lady Bone Demon would be locked away in. But once he was given the Skeleton Key, Macaque threw it away and sought out the Monkey King to get revenge on him. [5]
Monkie Kid: A Hero is Born
When MK arrived at a temple in Flower Fruit Mountain, he saw an illustration of Macaque and the Monkey King's other adversaries.
Macaque
MK believes that he is getting nowhere with his training under the Monkey King and trains under Macaque, not knowing his true intentions. Leading MK on a path to darkness, Macaque tricks MK and succeeds in stealing the power of the Monkey King from him, absorbing it and increasing his power. After a furious battle with the Monkey King, Macaque is defeated by MK, who regains his power.
Shadow Play
Macaque disguised himself as a puppeteer and told the story of The Hero and the Warrior, referring to him being friends with the Monkey King once before being forgotten. He toyed with MK by trapping his friends in the magic lantern and using them to fight him, after he shared his insecurities with him about the Lady Bone Demon and the thoughts of being the wrong successor to the Monkey King. After briefly fighting, Macaque destroyed the lantern and left, only to later return to get it back, but was confronted by the Mayor, who took the lantern as one of the ingredients to the bone mech and to bring him to the Lady Bone Demon.
After This is the End!
After being taken by the Mayor, Macaque learned that Lady Bone Demon had took over Megapolis and claimed possession of the Golden Staff. While meeting her, he was told about the promise he broke and to make up for it, he had to capture Monkey King and MK for her.

Macaque, befitting his dark appearance and abilities, is a shady individual. He will try to gain the trust of others with promises of power, only to betray them to suit his own ends. As shown during his talk while training MK, he is an aggressive fighter who thinks that people with power should fight without mercy. Macaque, being a rival of the Monkey King, has a desire for power, and seeks to gain the Monkey King's power to surpass his former friend. Despite his antagonistic relationship with the Monkey King, Macaque seems to respect his strength, demanding him to show the "real" Sun Wukong in battle, and claiming the fact that he would hold back his strength on a kid to be pathetic.
Macaque considers heroes to be people who are selfish and only have regards for themselves, as they grow in power to the point that they come to care about nothing else and leave everyone they care of behind. Because of this, Macaque felt betrayed and abandoned by Monkey King once he became the hero that MK and everyone else know him as. His close death at the hands of Monkey King also led him to believe that friends only care about each other based on how useful they are to one another and nothing else.
Appearance
Macaque has a similar appearance to the Monkey King. However, he bears dark fur covering his body and tail. He has a feathered red marking across yellow eyes and thick bushy black eyebrows.

MK is a noodle delivery boy and the successor of the Monkey King. When MK learns that the Demon Bull King was freed from his imprisonment, he, along with Mei, Pigsy, Tang, and Sandy, went on a quest to give the Golden Staff back to the Monkey King, in hopes that he can defeat the Demon Bull King again. However, when MK went to the Flaming Mountains with Mei and Pigsy, he was presumably killed by Princess Iron Fan. But when MK realized that he ended up in Flower Fruit Mountain, he meets Monkey King and was inspired by him to believe in himself and take the Golden Staff back. When MK returned to the city, he reunites with friends and celebrated with them after defeating the Demon Bull King, earning the title Monkie Kid.First Latest Monkie Kid: A Hero is Born Destiny Fulfilled A week later, MK continued to battle demons as well as facing difficult challenges. Although, when the Demon Bull King freed Lady Bone Demon from her tomb, MK teams up with Princess Iron Fan and Red Son to free DBK from Lady Bone Demon's control and became successful.
When the Spider Queen and the Spider-Bots started taking control of the civilians at New Year's, MK wasn't sure what to do after Monkey King got captured by her. However, when Red Son says he can find an antidote that can cure the citizens, MK and the rest of his team teamed up with him to travel to the Celestial Realm to and retrive the Celestial Artifacts.
After Monkey King left to go on vacation, MK began to wonder if the Monkey King picked the wrong successor after learning Lady Bone Demon's identity. Eventually, MK learned that the Spider Queen was being used as a pawn for Lady Bone Demon and attempted to fight her, but lost his powers as a result. However, after MK realized that Monkey King lied about going on vacation and was actually looking for a weapon that could defeat Lady Bone Demon the whole time, he and the others joined him on a quest to look for it so they can beat the Lady Bone Demon.

Personality
MK is a typical teenage boy. [3] [4] He enjoys hanging out with his friends, playing videogames, and is often easily distracted when it comes to his job. More than anything, MK is a fanboy of the Monkey King, knowing everything of his background and heroism in his journey to the west. Upon gaining the Monkey King's Golden Staff, MK seeks to become hero like the Monkey King every way. However, he tends lose focus on the task at hand, and can be impatient when to comes to the Monkey King's training, wanting to learn action moves rather than learn a lesson. He has severe arachnophobia.
Despite his shortcomings, MK is cares a lot about his friends and is willing to do whatever it takes to protect and be there for them, even risking his own life just to comfort his best friend after having an emotional breakdown. [5] MK is incredibly empathetic, accepting and encouraging the help of Red Son and Macaque, even though both were his enemies at the time. [6] [7] He believes that you cannot judge something by its worst qualities.
In Season 2, Monkey King's absense and Lady Bone Demon's interference caused MK to grow a sense of insecurities, which caused him break away from his friends as he tried to keep it a secret from them, believing that it was the best way to protect them from the Bone Demon. It also led MK into thinking that Monkey King choosing him as his successor was wrong, and even going as far to punch "Monkey King" after thinking he was being mocked about his lack of confidence.
MK has admitted that sometimes he plays dumb to lighten the mood.
In LEGO Brawls (non-canon)
MK is a playable character in LEGO Brawls. He is the first character that can be unlocked after collecting enough Season Trophies in the first week of Season 14 of LEGO Brawls, A Hero is Born. In addition, MK's Hero variant can be unlocked in the final week of Season 14, Team Monkie Kid.
Appearance
MK is a teenager [3] [4] with spiky black hair that's kept up by a red bandana. He has thick eyebrows and his minifigure has a chipped tooth.
Minifigures
Minifigure Show Differences MK's Minifigure has the Chinese character for "sky" on the left side of his shirt while a red rectangle with white squares is featured on the right. His bandana has a circlet design on the front as well. MK's Minifigure features a breast pocket and a Pigsy's Noodles' insignia on his white dress shirt. MK's minifigure features more pockets on the pants and the shoes are more detailed, with the outsole having white and gold printing. Each side of the jacket also has a breast pocket and the shoulder strap has the Chinese character for "sky". MKs training outfit is practically identical between the minifigure and the show. During his entrapment in the Trigram Furnace, MK found himself hopeless until he saw his reflection, who told him that he's on his own and that he needed to figure a way out by himself. Even though he disagreed at first, MK took his reflection's advice and was able to escape from the furnace.
When the Lady Bone Demon attempted to trick MK into striking the furnace, his reflection frantically warned him to stop, causing MK to catch onto the ruse.
It's worth noting that MK's reflection is presumably not another living being like his clones, but a representation of his inner thoughts and subconscious for the audiences benefit.

Due to him having the same powers as Monkey King's, MK can create multiple versions of himself by using strains of his hair. Although, MK can only keep the clones docile depending on how well he can control his powers. [8] Otherwise they would overdo what they were told.
