Stardew Valley is a relaxing, simple farm-life simulator in which you gradually build up your farm, forge lasting relationships and help a bunch of lovable little forest spirits called Junimos rebuild the town’s Community Center—or simply bulldoze it to make room for a storage warehouse for your local JojaMart. After all, that’s what the game is really all about: your choices, and how they affect the community of Pelican Town (and your own farm within). If you happen to make fat stacks of gold in the process, that’s awesome, too.

When you’re first getting started with Stardew Valley, it can be easy to get overwhelmed. After all, there’s a farm to run, friends to make, chores to complete, gathering to do. That seemingly simple farm-life, with its daily chores and respectable hard work, has the possibility of becoming an overwhelming stress-fest if you worry too much about maximizing your farm’s output. However, there’s certainly nothing wrong with wanting to get the most out of your experience while creating a reasonably profitable farming empire!

Selecting your farm map

When creating your character, you are given the option to select your desired farm map. For the sake of simplicity, this guide is written with the Standard Farm map in mind. This map offers the largest amount of tillable tiles (3,427) and is the easiest to build on, since the layout is mostly uncluttered by scenery and water. It’s worth noting that the other map types are quite beautiful, and many general layout strategies will still apply.

Other map options include Riverland Farm, Forest Farm, Hill-top Farm, and Wilderness Farm, each designed with a specific player skill in mind: Fishing for Riverland Farm, Foraging for Forest Farm, Mining for Hill-top Farm, and Combat for Wilderness Farm.

Huge tract of land

After an enjoyable bit of introductory gameplay, you’re ready to take on the responsibility of running your own farm and can begin using your tools to clear patches of land. You have access to only the most basic tools, including the Axe, Fishing Pole, Hoe, Pickaxe, and Watering Can, which can be upgraded as you progress. Each tool consumes Energy when used—run out of Energy, and you’ll become exhausted to the point of passing out. You’ll be dragged back home, charged a fee, and a new day will begin.

When you’re ready to start putting your ideas on paper, Stardew Planner is an incredibly valuable tool that allows you to digitally design your complete farm layout, placing buildings, terrain, crops and more, on a grid of the farm map you have selected.

Playing it for the plot

Once you’ve made some space amidst the chaos of twigs, stumps and rocks, it’s time to start working on that layout. You’ll be starting small, of course, but it’s best to have a general idea of how you want your overall farm to look, so you can gradually work towards that goal. A great way to do this is by “zoning” your farm’s layout to set a general idea of where you’ll be placing crop beds, barns, storage buildings, etc. This is where Stardew Planner will truly shine, as you can use it to get the exact measurements of each in-game item to make sure you’re allowing for enough room. Doing so can be especially difficult to do early on in-game, as you’ll still have much land clearing to do, with some debris requiring upgraded tools.

Of course all of this long-term development will require money, so you want to start farming as soon as possible. You’re given some seeds early on and can purchase additional seeds from Pierre’s General Store, JojaMart, and (occasionally) the Traveling Cart, a vendor that is available in Cindersap Forest on Fridays and Sundays. Much later, at Farming Level 9, you can obtain the Seed Maker through questing or crafting, with which you can turn most crops into seeds.

Farming for fun (and profit)

When it comes to setting up your plots, you can actually choose any layout you’d like. Shake off those old Harvest Moon habits—you don’t need to plant in 3×3 arrangements! You can safely walk through your crops without causing any damage, so you don’t have to put paths between your plots, either. You’re free to make plots as large and wide as you want. Keep in mind that you’ll be unable to pass through crops grown on a trellis, such as hops or grapes, so if you’re dealing with those, you’ll want to leave space as needed to pass by. If you plan to use Sprinklers (and you should), you may wish to set up your plots to take advantage of their output early on so you don’t have to completely redesign later (more on that below).

It’s worth noting that there are benefits to the trusted 3×3 layout, especially when starting out. You’re limited by your low level tools and have only so much Energy to spare, so you’ll want to start with small plots that are easily maintained. Additionally, when planting Cauliflower, Melons or Pumpkins, 3×3 plots have a chance to grow into a giant crop, which have a much higher yield.

One of the most important things to keep in mind when planning your crop layout is to remember that you’ll actually have to be able to maintain the plots. This includes tilling the soil, planting the crops, watering the crops, gathering the crops and re-planting the crops. Any tasks which involve use of tools will consume Energy, so you don’t want to be too ambitious! Early game, especially in the first Spring, you won’t have access to the fancier, upgraded tools that make your life easier, so you’ll be stuck working your farm the hard(er) way.

The crops themselves are relatively low maintenance. You plant them, water them, harvest them and sell them (or use them to create other goods, then sell those). You can choose to use Fertilizers which offer different bonuses including and increased chance of growing quality crops, give your crops a chance to stay watered overnight (cutting down on your workload), and can increase the growth rate of your crops (so they can be gathered earlier).

Better farming through hydration

Early on, keeping your crops watered daily can be one of the more tiring tasks. As you upgrade the Watering Can, it will be able to hold more water and will water multiple tiles in straight lines, eventually watering 3×3 and 3×9 grids, instead of having to water each crop individually. You can begin upgrading the Watering Can as soon as you want, but know that upgrading tools will take two days, which means one full day you won’t be able to water your plants. However, on days that it rains, you won’t need to water your crops, so be sure to check your TV regularly for the weather forecast so you can plan accordingly.

Once you reach Farming Level 2 (through farming, of course), you’ll unlock the recipe to craft Sprinklers. Sprinklers will automatically water your crops every morning, freeing up your Energy for other tasks such as Mining! There are three different tiers of Sprinklers, each watering a specific number of adjacent tiles.

Sprinkler – Unlocked at Farming Level 2, waters 4 adjacent tiles

Quality Sprinkler – Unlocked at Farming Level 6, waters 8 adjacent tiles

Iridium Sprinkler – Unlocked at Farming Level 9, waters 24 adjacent tiles

Unfortunately, the first tier Sprinkler is pretty weak, and many players feel that they’re not even worth bothering with. If you do decide you’ll be using them, you may wish to plan your plots early on to keep optimal output in mind. For Quality Sprinklers, you can create 3×3 plots with the Sprinkler in the middle to ensure proper watering. Once you’re using Iridium Sprinklers, it is generally easiest to place 5×5 plots side by side, with a Sprinkler in the middle of each one for proper watering coverage.

Helpful layout tips

Stop digging up your Sprinklers

The Hoe, by design, will till soil. Unfortunately, this can result in the accidental removal of items placed on soil, including your Sprinklers. To avoid this annoyance, place your Sprinklers on a path tile so you don’t hoe ‘em up by mistake.

Use scarecrows to (you guessed it) scare crows

Your crops are vulnerable to more than just dehydration. Scarecrows will keep crows from eating your crops, and a single Scarecrow will protect the 248 tiles in a circle around it. They’re easy to craft and cover so much space that you really don’t have to worry about being too exact in factoring them into your layout.

Lightning strikes are more common than you’d think

Your crops are also vulnerable to lightning strikes. You won’t be able to acquire Lighting Rods until much later in the game, once you reach Foraging Level 6, so don’t worry too much about this when you’re just getting started out. Lightning Rods can be placed anywhere on your farm to absorb lightning, so they will not need to be worked into your plot layout. Each Rod can only hold a single strike at a time, at which point it will begin a 24 hour process of creating a Battery Pack, which are used to create (among other things) Iridium Sprinklers!

Trellis crops will stop you in your path

Unlike soil-planted crops, which are perfectly content to be trampled on a daily basis, crops that grow on trellis will stop you in your path. This makes sense, as the trellis is an actual solid, impassable object. It’s important to keep this limitation in mind if you plan to farm these crops, as you’ll need to be able to actually reach each crop in order to harvest them. Because of this, you may consider utilizing the trusty 3×3 layout (which will allow for access to all crops while also positioning a Sprinkler in the middle). Once you’re using Iridium Sprinklers, you can expand this plot to a 5×5 by planting other, non-trellis crops in the outer tiles.

Barns: not just for animals anymore!

If you’re looking for extra storage space for chests, kegs, farming equipment, look no further than the trusty Barn! If you’re low on gold, Sheds are cheaper than Barns and are a good starting point, but the Deluxe Barn will offer double the storage capacity with a similar footprint (Sheds are 7×3, Barns are 7×4). Definitely something to keep in mind if you’re a habitual hoarder (or just want to make lots and lots of beer and wine).

Horses are fat (but they can wear a hat)

Once you’ve built a Stable, you’re now the proud owner of a quality horse, which allows you to move 30 percent faster when riding. If you’re planning to ride your horse around your farm, be sure to keep the horse’s strange tile requirements in mind. When moving horizontally, the horse can pass through one space tiles with no trouble, but when moving vertically, it will require at least two spaces of room. You can’t use your tools or while riding, so you don’t need to worry about making room for him among your crops, but be sure the rest of your farm (or, at least, anywhere you’re planning to ride) is horse-friendly!

Winter is coming—time to tear down the farm!

In Winter, you won’t be able to plant any crops until you can access Winter Seeds, crafted using the Wild Seeds (Wi) recipe unlocked at Foraging Level 7. This makes Winter the best time to catch up on the “everything else” besides farming: relationships, foraging, fishing, etc. It’s also a great time to make changes to your farm’s layout, based on your experiences over the past three seasons.

В нём предоставлена возможность взглянуть целиком на всю ферму сверху, на поле расположены квадратики, в которых вы можете размещать культуры, забор, дорожку и прочее. Когда вы разместите разбрызгиватель (поливалка) или пугало, будет показана область, на которую эффект будет распространяться — этого нету даже в игре. Как только вы сделаете расположение, которое вам нравится, нажмите большую зеленую дискету в верхнем левом углу и добавьте в закладки полученный URL, чтобы вернуться к нему снова потом. На данный момент планировщик не работает на сенсорных устройствах, но в будущем разработчик планирует добавить такую возможность.

Stardew Valley Farm Planner Apps You Can Use

There are various ways for you to plan your farm design. And of course, there are several apps that can help you get the best out of your farm.

For example, The Valley Planner is an app made for android users to be able to make exceptional plans and designs for their games.

If you’re not a fan of the online planner, you can always check out this amazing farm planner mod. And speaking of mods, you can also check out our mods directory here.

Farm Planner for iOS and Android

Farm Planners for iOS and Android are also available for players to use. However, due to the limited use of these apps outside the new updates, it can be quite hard to actually get yourself a farming planner.

And before you can do that, you need to go to upload.farm. Screenshot your farm and use this mod. For iOS devices, this will help.

For Mobile
The easiest way to capture an image of your farm on mobile is with upload.farm. You can find your save files under the “On My iPad/iPhone” tab in Files on iOS or at storage/emulated/0/StardewValley on Android. For full iOS instructions, click the button below:

In the left sidebar, select "On My iPad" or "On My iPhone", it should be near the top
Tap on the Stardew Valley folder
You'll see a folder for each of your saves, labelled with your farmer's name, tap the save you want to share.
You'll now see several files, you want the one labelled with your farmer's name, an underscore, and a bunch of numbers. Tap that one.
Tap "Upload!"

If you’re playing on Android with a modded farm map or using any visual mods, you’ll want to use the Map Image Export Mod. That way, you’ll properly capture how your farm looks in game. This is also the best way to get a nighttime view of you farm. This mod is no longer actively maintained, but since Android is still on version 1.4, the mod should still work. Note that this option isn’t available on iOS. For details on Android modding, see here.

Recreate your farm using Stardew Planner and export the plan as a render. Plans can be rendered in any season by clicking the purple button in the top right.
While playing, go to Robin’s and select the move buildings option. This will give you a slightly larger view of your farm, but you’ll still need to take a number of screenshots and stitch them together.

Stardew Planner is a great tool for planning a farm, created by @hpeinar. There is also a multiplayer planner where you can work on a single farm plan with multiple people.

Getting Started with the Planner
To start, you’ll want to select a farm map from the Layouts drop-down. If you play on PC or mobile, you also have the option to upload a save file and begin planning from there.

The site has a number of keyboard controls that make it easier to use, so once you’re on the planner page, scroll down to see those. It’s also worth noting that this site is designed for a desktop browser and doesn’t work well on mobile.

Saving a Plan
When you save a plan, the site will generate a unique url for that plan. Please be sure to bookmark or otherwise save this link to return to that plan. (If you saved a plan and closed the site, you’ll still be able to recover the plan in your browser’s history)

Sharing a Plan
Click the purple button in the top right and select your favorite season to get a render of your farm plan. Please note that if you’re planning a modded map, you won’t be able to render it, but you can still select “Save plan as picture” to get an unrendered image.

If you're referring to the planner, the farm layout you saved can now be found at that URL. You can bookmark it to return to that plan later, or save the URL somewhere else. The planner site has no concept of accounts or users, so that unique URL is how you get back to your layout. I hope that makes sense, and let me know if you have any other questions!

Sharing Your Farm

Enter the in-game map you want to capture.
Open your inventory.
Click on/move to the Options tab and scroll to the bottom.
(PC only) Select a percentage. This actually refers to the quality of the screenshot produced, it will capture the full map no matter which % you pick, just at different levels of image quality (and file size).
Click the camera button on PC, or "screenshot" on console.

~/.local/share/StardewValley/Screenshots isn't working for my mac. I've tried everything to try and find my screenshots but I can't anywhere. It doesn't take me to a SV folder, I'm pretty sure it's just my main account folder with the "desktop" "downloads," etc files. There's no "open destination folder" in my settings, just the screenshot. I have SV through Steam, but the screenshots also don't show up on the screenshot tab on my Steam. I've tried upload.farm but it's glitchy and tends to duplicate some of my farm buildings and it doesn't show the pathways around my farm, so it doesn't look right. I have no clue what to do and it's so frustrating lol I just want farm pictures

Since its release date in 2016 members of the Stardew Valley community have created some impressive farms. We’re going to count down the best farm layouts to help you set up your farm for success.

Disclaimer: Depending on a players personal playstyle, layout placement may vary. All layouts featured are great in their own ways! Additionally, all layouts featured in this list are for the standard farm layout, not specialty farm layouts.

15. Spacious Farm

For players who don’t want an overly claustrophobic farm, this spacious farm layout is both efficient and spread out.

What Makes this Layout Great:

This layout gives the player a nearly complete setup with plenty of room to spare.
Allows for more buildings to be placed in the future if the player wishes to expand their farm.

14. Orchard Farm

This farm layout allows for long lines of fruit trees and plenty of area for the other essential categories of player’s farms. For the players who like to process wine and juice, this one's for you!

What Makes this Layout Great:

Maximizing the long lines of the farm, this layout puts a larger focus on fruit trees. With more trees, players can maximize their wine and juice production and earn themselves a hefty profit.
For those looking to follow a layout and have room for your own projects, this layout leaves the far left corner nearly empty for all of your creative necessities.

13. Animal Farm

Both coops and barns offer players a unique experience that members of the community either hate or love. Nonetheless, caring for animals is a lot of work and for those willing to do that work, this is the layout for you!

What Makes this Layout Great:

This layout not only allows farm animals to roam but allows the player to have a plethora of animals.
Paired with the proper care needed for quality starred animal products, this farm layout can produce players with a sizable amount of money.

12. Junimo Farm

This particular farm layout has a large focus on automatic farming. This setup allows for players to largely gain their money through crops.

What Makes this Layout Great:

Junimo Huts are evenly spread across the farm, causing automatic collection of crops. Iridium sprinklers in each quadrant automatically water the surrounding crops.
This layout has a farming focus but doesn’t discredit the other properties of every farm.

11. Bee Farm

While this farm is aesthetically pleasing, it also serves a larger purpose that most casual players of Stardew Valley may not take into consideration. The true value of the Bee House.

What Makes this Layout Great:

The plethora of bee houses in the center of the farm surrounded by flowers allows players to collect Flower Honey, which sells for more than flowerless honey.
Every inch of available space in the player farm is covered in this layout, decreasing the re-growth at the start of each season.

10. Organized Farm

For neat freaks and players who like things symmetrical, this nice and organized farm is the layout for you. Although it is similar to many farms on this list, it is versatile and aesthetically pleasing.

What Makes this Layout Great:

Includes all major farm categories spread across the farm
All sections serve their own unique purpose and provide easy organization for mid to end game players.

9. Forest Farm

Similar to the Orchard Farm, this farm has a focus on large amounts of trees. However, this particular layout showcases the wild trees rather than an excess of fruit trees.

What Makes this Layout Great:

Organizing your wild trees instead of letting them grow rampant around the farm saves room for other sections.
Wild trees produce raw materials that are useful in crafting and this layout separates them by tree type helping for even more specificity.

8. Wood Planked Farm

For players looking for an interesting take on the original farm, look no further than what I call the Wood Planked Farm. What this farm lacks in productivity it makes up for in uniqueness.

What Makes this Layout Great:

Wood planks throughout prohibits large amounts of growth within the changing of the seasons.
For players who are looking to beautify their home towards the end game, while making a decent amount of money this is the project for you.

7. Shed Farm

What this farm has going for it is not only nicely spread out and sectioned off areas within it but also a plethora of storage space. Players who are looking to maximize their chests, kegs, cheese makers, etc. a layout like this is perfect for you.

What Makes this Layout Great:

Placement of the sheds in the corner of the farm allows for all of the extra out of home storage to be centered into one area, making it easier for the player to collect in one trip.
This layout has pathways that clearly connect and allow for easy access to all sections of the farm.

6. Realistic Farm

What I like about this layout is its attention to a true farm vibe. Although this layout doesn’t incorporate any Slime Hutches or crazy Stardew exclusive buildings, this layout is quaint and efficient.

What Makes this Layout Great:

This layout breaks the farm map into thirds and it works. It is organized with a purpose.
Layout focuses on real world farm design. Including large patches of grass for animals to graze, decent amounts of forest and a sizeable section of sheds and crops.

5. Crystalarium Farm

This layout sections on a significant portion of the farm to produce minerals. Unlike many of the other layouts mentioned, the creator of this layout focuses largely on the production of mining resources.

What Makes this Layout Great:

Although expensive, the long line of Crystalariums will earn you big cash and is a smart investment.
Even with the large chunk of farm dedicated towards minerals, the farm still manages to incorporate sizable crop fields, animal buildings, bee houses, and fishing ponds.

4. Stardew Brewery

Similar to the Orchard Layout I mentioned earlier, this farm takes a focus on wine and juice production to a whole new level. With both aesthetically pleasing lines and sections and a hefty earning coming players way, it's easy to see why someone would layout their farm this way.

What Makes this Layout Great:

For players who are looking to make some serious cash and don’t really care for having so many different buildings to manage, this is a simpler one task layout.
With all of those kegs, wine and juice profits will have players living in luxury. So much luxury that they could wipe this layout clean and redo it if they wished to.

3. Hedge Heaven

What makes this layout great is its artistic take on the player farm. Much like many of the layouts included on this list, it is sectioned off nicely but its artistry adds even more to this lively farm.

What Makes this Layout Great:

This farm includes many of the end game elements while incorporating an interesting take on the player farm
What this farm does differently than most is its sections are lengthy rather than wide.

2. The Superior Spacious Farm

Similar to the first layout on my list, this farm includes large sections of spacious areas. What makes this farm far better is overall aesthetic and productivity.

What Makes this Layout Great:

Each section is bordered by fences giving a very sectioned off and organized feel.
For players who are into aesthetically pleasing farms and high productivity, this layout is perfect. It allows for maximum money making potential and soothing looks.

1. End Game Farm

What places this layout at number one on my list is the fact that it combines a little bit of everything that I liked about the previous layouts mentioned. It contains an evenly distributed amount of every main in game activity.

What Makes this Layout Great:

This layout allows for players to be productive in every facet of the game while still having a spacious and uncluttered farm.
This layout is more of an end game layout just because of home cost. It would be to achieve something like this but, nonetheless it is a layout that is well worth the price of creation.

That concludes my list of the best Stardew Valley Farm Layouts! I don’t know about you guys but these amazing layouts have sparked my creativity.
